Job description

Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Research Financial Analyst to play a key role in advancing the financial integrity and operational excellence of a complex, system-wide research portfolio.

This position is ideal for professionals with deep experience in sponsored programs, research finance, or grants administration who are ready to step into a high-impact, subject matter expert role-driving financial accuracy, strengthening compliance, and leading process improvements across the organization.

  • Fully remote work opportunity in the following approved states: CT, FL, MD, NH, NC, OH, RI, SC, TN, TX, VT, & VA

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Senior Director of Research Operations, you will oversee critical aspects of sponsored program financial management, including complex reporting, audit readiness, compliance oversight, and system optimization. You will serve as a trusted partner to Finance, Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA), and research leadership-while also mentoring junior analysts and championing continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Lead the preparation and review of complex financial reports, reconciliations, and analyses for sponsored programs
  • Oversee financial activity management for BMC and PVLSI, including coordination of year-end audit documentation
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and sponsor regulations, proactively monitoring and applying updates to workflows
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Lawson Grants Management, maintaining system integrity, troubleshooting issues, and driving enhancements
  • Manage invoicing, cash draws, and accounts receivable, ensuring timely billing and collection
  • Prepare, review, and submit journal entries, budget adjustments, and financial corrections
  • Partner with Accounting, SPA, and internal teams to ensure timely activity setup, maintenance, and closeout
  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reporting accuracy
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to Research Financial Analysts (I & II), fostering a culture of accountability and development
  • Support and lead change management initiatives to improve financial operations and consistency

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field, required
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in research finance, sponsored programs, or grants administration, required
  • Strong experience with Lawson financial systems and Grants Management modules
  • Experience supporting audit preparation and compliance reviews
  • Familiarity with federal and state grant regulations, Uniform Guidance, and audit requirements. Leadership & Team Development: Ability to mentor and guide staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Expertise in sponsored program accounting, budgeting, and compliance.
  • Capacity to analyze trends, identify risks, and recommend solutions to support organizational goals.
  • Ability to champion process improvements and adapt to evolving regulatory and operational requirements.

Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
