Summary
HII's Mission Technologies division is seeking a Technical Writer to support Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Dam Neck Activity (DNA) Training and Readiness (T&R) systems. This role supports engineering, documentation, and configuration management across the Training and Readiness Family of Systems (FoS), including Instructional Systems and Classroom Systems Design within the Shore-Based Engineering and Development Support (SBEDS) Surface Training Program (STP).
This position is primarily remote; however, candidates in the Hampton Roads, VA area are preferred to support periodic in-person team activities, customer meetings, and all-hands events.
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation supporting new and existing training system designs.
  • Provide prototyping support for engineering, design, and development of classroom training systems.
  • Participate in quarterly In-Progress Reviews (IPRs) and Requirements Analysis Working Groups (RAWGs).
  • Support requirements engineering activities, including creation and coordination of:
    • Systems Engineering Plans (SEP)
    • System Requirements Documents (SRD)
    • Software Requirements Specifications (SRS)
    • Hardware Requirements Specifications (HRS)
    • Life Cycle Sustainment Plans (LCSP)
    • Configuration Management Plans (CMP)
    • Risk Management Plans (RMP)
    • System Security Administrator and Operator's Manuals (SSAOM)
    • Quality Management Plans (QMP)
  • Prepare illustrative materials such as diagrams, charts, and sketches; conduct quality reviews of developed products.
  • Track baseline changes and maintain document control in accordance with the Configuration Management Plan.
  • Manage project artifacts and repositories using SharePoint.
  • Capture and distribute meeting minutes, action items, and trip reports.
  • Support the Lead System Engineer (LSE) in maintaining realistic inputs to the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Domestic travel may be required.

What you must have
  • 0 years experience with Bachelors in related field or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Current or active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience as a Systems Engineer supporting a major shipboard, non-propulsion
  • U.S. Navy surface combat system or shipboard training system experience (LDO, CWO, or senior enlisted technical background).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with government customers, teammates, and contractors.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to anticipate customer needs based on prior experience.
