Accounting Manager - Fully Remote

B Consulting

Dallas, TX โ€ข Remote

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Job description

Most accounting managers spend years going deep on one company's books. This role goes wider.
You'll own the close for a portfolio of funded, high-growth startups — a Shopify brand with real inventory and landed costs one day, and a SaaS company with deferred revenue and equity ownership the next. You'll be on the client calls. You'll manage a team of offshore accountants who handle the transactional work so you can focus on review, judgment, and the conversations with the controller and founders.
If you've been the person who could be advising clients but keeps getting pulled into reconciliations, this is the step up.

What makes this seat different
  • Portfolio variety  Tech, consumer products, retail, manufacturing, and services clients. Inventory and cost accounting, revenue recognition, lease accounting, and equity accounting — often in the same month.
  • You manage a team  You'll directly lead our offshore accounting team: assigning work, reviewing output, and raising their ceiling. Real management experience, not a dotted line.
  • A modern stack, not a legacy ERP  Puzzle, Ramp, Rho, Rippling, Carta, and Numeral are good examples. You'll leave here fluent in the tooling startups actually run on.
  • A path to Controller  You'll work side by side with our Controllers on every engagement. We promote from within, so when you’re ready you’d get considered for a controller position.
  • Genuine transparency  Drafts, working files, and client communications are visible across the team. Nobody works in a silo, and nobody gets blindsided in a client meeting. It means your work gets reviewed — and it means you learn from everyone else's.
What you'll ownThe monthly close, for multiple clients
  • Generate timely, accurate monthly financial statements
  • Review and guide the offshore team's work product
  • Reconciliations, accruals, and deferred journal entries
  • Update financial models and cash forecasts with actuals
  • Manage client budgets
The client relationship
  • Engage in recurring client calls and respond to founder requests directly
  • Translate the numbers into something a non-finance founder can act on
  • Partner with our Controllers on strategic and advisory work
Accounting operations (you own the outcome; your team does much of the execution)
  • AR — invoicing and collections
  • AP — bill processing and vendor setup
  • Payroll and benefit clearing account reconciliations, including 401(k) and medical
  • Insurance audits and renewals
  • Inventory and landed costs
  • Sales tax management and compliance
Tax and compliance coordination
  • Work with external partners on federal and state income tax returns (C Corp, S Corp, LLC)
  • Annual state filings and franchise taxes
  • Local business registrations, sales and use tax, R&D tax credits, W-9s and 1099s
What you'll bringRequired
  • 7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years managing or reviewing the work of other accountants
  • Experience serving multiple clients or entities at once; public accounting, outsourced accounting, or a multi-entity corporate role
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP; financial statement presentation, revenue recognition, deferred revenue, prepaid and accrued expenses, fixed assets
  • Hands-on ownership of a full-cycle monthly close
  • Fluency in QuickBooks Online or Xero
  • Strong Google Sheets skills — pivot tables, SUMIFS, model maintenance
  • Bachelor's degree, accounting or finance concentration preferred
  • Comfortable leading a client call without a Controller in the room
Strongly preferred
  • CPA, or CPA-eligible and pursuing it
  • Big 4 or national public accounting background
  • Startup or VC-backed client experience
  • Inventory, manufacturing, or cost accounting exposure
  • Equity accounting exposure
You'll pick up here if you don't have it  Puzzle · Expensify · Ramp · Rho · Brex · Bill.com · Settle · Mercury Bill Pay · Gusto · JustWorks · Rippling · Warp · Sequoia · Deel · RemoFirst · Shopify · Amazon FBA · Walmart Seller Central · Avalara · Numeral · TaxJar · Pulley · Carta · AngelList · Stripe · PayPal · Cin7 · Fishbowl · SOS
We don't expect anyone to arrive knowing all of these. We do expect you to learn a new system quickly when a client shows up on it.Compensation and benefits$100,000 - $120,000, depending on experience and location.
We have an amazing benefits package which includes:
  • Health, dental, and vision
  • 401(k) and matching
  • PTO policy
  • 100% fully remote
  • Professional development, CPA support, CPE reimbursement
Hiring processApplication review → 15 minute call with recruiter → practical exercise →  30-minute intro call → technical conversation with a Controller → final conversations with HR Director & CEO → paid trial onboarding. We aim to move from first call to decision in 3-4 weeks.About B Consulting
