What is a remote contract manufacturing manager?

A Remote Contract Manufacturing Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing manufacturing operations that are outsourced to external suppliers or contract manufacturers, all while working remotely. They coordinate production schedules, ensure quality standards are met, manage relationships with vendors, and handle logistics—all from a remote location. This role requires strong project management, communication, and negotiation skills to ensure products are manufactured efficiently and meet company standards without being physically present at the manufacturing site.

How does a remote contract manufacturing manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery?

As a Remote Contract Manufacturing Manager, you will frequently coordinate with teams such as quality assurance, supply chain, product development, and procurement. Collaboration usually takes place through virtual meetings, project management tools, and shared documentation platforms. Effective communication and proactive problem-solving are key, as you'll need to align diverse stakeholders on timelines, technical requirements, and regulatory standards. Building strong relationships across departments—despite the remote setting—is vital to addressing issues quickly and ensuring that production goals are met.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote contract manufacturing manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Contract Manufacturing Manager, you need expertise in supply chain management, contract negotiation, and manufacturing processes, typically supported by a degree in engineering, business, or a related field. Familiarity with ERP systems, project management tools like Asana or MS Project, and relevant certifications such as Six Sigma or PMP is often required. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate virtually set exceptional candidates apart in this role. These skills ensure efficient coordination with suppliers, robust quality control, and successful project delivery in a remote, fast-paced environment.

Job description

$170,000 - $190,000 base + 15% bonus, 7% 401k match

Remote (USA) with travel to Phoenix, AZ headquarters and customer sites

The Opportunity

This is a newly created role inside a $500M division of a multi-billion dollar aerospace and defense manufacturing parent company. There is no existing sales team in place, which means you would be building the customer growth strategy from the ground up rather than inheriting someone else's territory or process.

You would own existing customer relationships and pursue new business in current and adjacent aerospace/defense markets, with direct input into which accounts and programs the division pursues next.

Why You'll Love This Role

You would be the first person in this seat, giving you full latitude to shape how the division approaches capture planning, account strategy, and customer expansion.

The division is stable with low turnover, and the parent company's scale provides financial backing for a division that is actively investing in growth rather than defending market share.

Compensation includes a 15% bonus target and a 7% 401k match on top of base salary.

What Your Week Looks Like
  • Managing and expanding relationships with key aerospace/defense accounts and strategic partners
  • Building capture plans for target programs, part numbers, and customers
  • Supporting proposal and estimating activity, following up on in-process and submitted quotes
  • Tracking industry intelligence: new programs, aircraft platform rates, customer news, and competitive activity
  • Presenting market updates and account plans to business unit and executive leadership
  • Coordinating joint customer reviews and forecasting sessions with key accounts
  • Working cross-functionally with business units on account planning, forecasting, and customer issue resolution
What We're Looking For
  • 8+ years of sales experience selling machined products into aerospace/defense markets
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Demonstrated capture planning, program management, and contract administration experience
  • Track record managing competing priorities and short-notice deadlines
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams for forecasting and reporting
Why Candidates Say Yes
  • A greenfield sales role with no existing team or legacy process to untangle
  • Backing of a multi-billion dollar parent company behind a stable, low-turnover division
  • Direct visibility into designated accounts and regions with room to define your own strategy
  • Meaningful bonus and retirement match layered on top of a strong base salary
Ready to Apply?

If you know the aerospace/defense machined products space and want to build a growth function rather than maintain one, this is worth a conversation.
