About the Role:

The Commercial Portfolio Manager supports the commercial loan portfolio of one or more Bankers (Commercial and CRE) providing sound portfolio management and superior client service.  The Portfolio Manager maintains strong working relationships with the clients, banking team, credit team and other internal partners. 
The Portfolio Manager must be an analytical, organized, team-focused individual with good verbal and written communication skills. This individual will be responsible for completing an in-depth analysis of commercial loan requests, as well as making recommendations based on such analysis. Portfolio Managers work in a team environment as a key player within the relationship banking team.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and assess the financial condition, repayment capacity, character, and creditworthiness of borrowers and guarantors through review of financial statements, tax returns, personal financial statements, liquidity reports, and credit reports in accordance with Bank policies and underwriting guidelines.
  • Evaluate collateral adequacy and capital strength by reviewing appraisals, evaluations, environmental reports, inspection reports, market studies, accounts receivable agings, invoices, and other supporting collateral documentation.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit memos, loan reviews, pre-screen packages, and other reports that summarize borrower background, loan purpose, financial performance, repayment sources, collateral support, industry trends, and risk factors, while providing sound credit recommendations.
  • Analyze new loan requests, renewals, modifications, extensions, and ongoing portfolio management activities to ensure compliance with Bank lending policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage a commercial loan portfolio, including monitoring loan maturities, renewals, extensions, modifications, change memos, covenant compliance, and overall portfolio performance.
  • Regularly review borrower financial statements and operating performance to identify emerging risks, recommend corrective actions, and help prevent potential losses.
  • Monitor credit risk across the portfolio and identify borrowers that may require transfer to Special Assets or other enhanced risk management processes.
  • Track and resolve loan exceptions, post-closing requirements, covenant compliance items, and documentation deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Assist with loan pricing, commercial real estate underwriting models, and credit analysis to support relationship managers and lending teams.
  • Maintain accurate loan documentation and portfolio records within nCino and other Bank systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Bankers, Credit Officers, Underwriting Management, and other internal partners to support lending, portfolio management, and client relationship objectives.
  • Participate in client and prospect meetings as needed, providing analytical support and assisting with business development and sales efforts.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders through strong written, verbal, presentation, and partnership skills.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, customer service, teamwork, attendance, and accountability while performing additional duties as assigned by management.
  • Complete all mandatory training sessions as required by management.
  • Comply with bank procedures and follow regulatory, operational and security guidelines.
  • Contribute to the bank team effort by working on special projects and reports, performing other job-related duties, at the discretion of the Supervisor.

Preferred Education/Experience/Software:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business to include advanced knowledge of book and tax accounting.   Substantial understanding of the job and applies 2-5 years minimum experience in a similar position. Proficient in CRE and C&I lending underwriting knowledge.  Knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks; prepare financial spreads and utilize them in financial analysis reporting; and has the ability to use, understand and apply credit policy and bank regulations to responsibilities.  Exercise good judgment and discretion in the handling of confidential information and making recommendations to Directors and Bank Management.

Completes diverse deadline driven tasks. Works with highly sensitive and confidential information. Excellent written and verbal skills necessary to interact and communicate with various levels of internal and external clients.  Solid time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines.  Works under general supervision and usually on own initiative. Perform tasks independently and also work as a contributing team member.  May act as a resource to other internal staff.  Knowledgeable in a wide range of Microsoft Office software applications.  Proficient with Fiserv, nCino and other bank programs.   


Training:
Responsible for the timely completion of all required compliance training such has BSA, Information Security, and other job specific training as assigned.


Additional Requirements:  
The responsibility to acquire and maintain the required knowledge of State and Federal Banking regulations and policies.  


Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Professional office environment. While performing the duties of this position, the team member is regularly required to operate standard office equipment.  The team member is frequently required to communicate and perceive.   The position is primarily stationary and not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions and requires sedentary work such as exerting up to 10 pounds of force 5% of the time and a negligible amount of force approximately 95% of the time.
