Howย You'llย Make an Impactย 

The Rancho Santa Fe Community Services District is seeking an As Needed level I Sewer Collections Worker. The sewer district provides the residents of Rancho Santa Fe and surrounding areas with wastewater collection, treatment and disposal. Under the supervision of the Wastewater Collections System Manager, the Wastewater Collections System Worker performs a wide variety of manual labor tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of wastewater collection and treatment facilities, including pump stations, sewer lines, and other sanitary sewer collection system structures and water reclamation plant facilities by performing the following duties.

As an 'as needed' or 'variable hour' employee, your work schedule may be flexible and can vary from week to week or month to month, based on the needs of projectsย 

Duties and Responsibilitiesย ย 

The duties listed below are illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The exact duties performed will depend on the needs of the District.

  • Assists in the maintenance, repair and cleaning of sewer lines utilizing power operated equipment.
  • Cleans precipitates such as grit, sludge, grease, and other debris from pump station wet wells, manholes and other sanitary sewer collection system structures.
  • Lubricates equipment such as pumps, motors and valves.
  • Properly and safely operates light equipment and light to medium weight vehicles.
  • Uses hand and power tools and equipment to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Performs building and grounds maintenance at District facilities.
  • Reads and records information from meters and dials.
  • Assists in raising manhole covers and other structures to grade.
  • Will be assigned to on-call duty upon meeting District requirements/qualifications.
  • Performs all related duties as assigned.
  • Reports all incidents of possible non-compliance to the Collections System Manager in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements. Implements appropriate corrective actions.

Minimum Qualificationsย 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to work both independently and work well within a team environment.
  • Ability to perform and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to meet District vehicle/driving insurability standards.
  • Ability to interact with the public, vendors, and other employees in a courteous, tactful, and diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to perform basic functions in Microsoft Office.
  • The ideal candidate will possess mechanical aptitude, basic computer skills, and knowledge of hand tools with regards to the maintenance of the lift stations and sewer collection system
  • Must obtain CWEA grade 1 collection system operator certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employmentย 

Compensation: $27.00-35.00/hourly*ย 

*Finalย agreed-upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual's related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.ย 

Working Conditionsย ย 

  • This jobย operatesย in an outdoor or office-basedย environmentย and this role routinelyย usesย standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.ย 
  • Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.ย 
  • This job requires project site visits, basedย outdoorsย which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.ย 

Physical Requirementsย 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This job requires the following:ย ย 

  • Working on a computer, sitting, or standing forย long periodsย of time in an office or remote office setting.ย 
  • Employees must be capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, andย lifting upย to 35 lbs. unassisted; 50lbs in a team lift (two or more employees).ย 
  • Attending meetings, both in person and virtually, and speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc.ย ย 
  • Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.ย
