What is a remote collection?

A Remote Collection job involves contacting individuals or businesses to collect overdue payments, verify account information, and arrange payment solutions—all from a remote location. These roles typically require strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Agents may work via phone, email, or online chat, following company guidelines and legal regulations. Effective time management and the ability to handle sensitive financial information are key to success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remote collection position?

To thrive in a Remote Collection role, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in accounts receivable or debt collection, usually complemented by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with collection management software (like FICO Debt Manager or similar CRM tools), phone systems, and basic office software is typically required. Exceptional verbal communication, negotiation, and resilience are key soft skills that help you effectively engage with clients and resolve outstanding accounts. These abilities are crucial for meeting collection targets, maintaining positive client relations, and operating efficiently in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced in a remote collection role, and how can they be managed?

One common challenge in a Remote Collection role is communicating effectively with individuals who may be stressed or reluctant to discuss payment issues. Working remotely can also make it more difficult to collaborate with team members, requiring strong self-motivation and proactive communication. Many companies provide comprehensive training and regular virtual team meetings to address these challenges, as well as access to digital tools that streamline the collection process. Success in this role often comes from balancing persistence and professionalism, ensuring payments are collected while maintaining positive client relationships.

Whether you're a newly licensed agent looking for a strong start, an experienced locator ready to scale, or a sales professional breaking into real estate, this role was built for you.
This opportunity is designed for agents who enjoy working with renters, are comfortable communicating quickly, and want a flexible way to generate commission income through apartment placements.
What You'll Do
You'll work directly with renters who are actively searching for apartments. This includes understanding their budget, location, move date, lifestyle preferences, and must-haves, then helping them identify communities that match.
You'll also communicate with apartment properties, track client progress, follow up consistently, and make sure each client is properly supported through the leasing process.
This is a remote, commission-based role with flexible hours, but it requires strong follow-through and consistent
communication.
What We Provide
The Dwelling Group provides support, training, and systems to help agents understand the apartment locating process, manage renter conversations, and stay organized from lead to lease.
Agents will receive guidance on rental market basics, apartment search workflow, client communication, deal tracking, and best practices for building repeatable production.
Requirements
  • Active Texas Real Estate License
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Strong communication and follow-up skills
  • Basic comfort with technology and digital tools

This role is a good fit for someone who:
  • Has an active Texas real estate license
  • Based in Austin
  • Wants to work with renters and apartment communities
  • Is comfortable using CRM tools, property search tools, email, text, and social media
  • Can respond quickly and professionally to client inquiries
  • Is self-motivated, organized, and coachable
  • Has sales, leasing, customer service, or real estate experience

Prior apartment locating experience is helpful, but not required.

Compensation
This is a commission-based independent contractor opportunity.
Estimated annual earnings: $50,000 - $150,000+, depending on activity, client volume, market conditions, and individual production.
