They typically work from home, ensuring accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS. This role helps healthcare providers receive proper reimbursement from insurance companies while maintaining patient data integrity. Strong attention to detail and knowledge of medical terminology are essential for success in this position.

To excel as a Remote Coder 1, you need a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems such as ICD-10 and CPT, commonly supported by a relevant certification like CPC or CCS. Familiarity with healthcare billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems is often required, along with certifications from organizations like AAPC or AHIMA.
