What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote CMDB (Configuration Management Database) Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote CMDB Specialist, you need expertise in IT service management (ITSM), data analysis, and a strong understanding of IT infrastructure, often supported by ITIL certification or similar qualifications. Familiarity with CMDB tools such as ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, or HP Universal CMDB, and proficiency in database management and reporting systems are typically required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective remote communication skills help ensure accurate data maintenance and collaboration with dispersed teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining reliable configuration data, supporting IT operations, and enabling effective change management in distributed environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote CMDB administrators, and how can they overcome them?

Remote CMDB (Configuration Management Database) administrators often encounter challenges such as maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of IT assets, ensuring data consistency across distributed systems, and effectively collaborating with remote teams. Overcoming these challenges typically involves implementing automated discovery tools, establishing clear data governance practices, and utilizing communication platforms to coordinate with other IT and business units. Emphasizing documentation, regular audits, and continuous training can also help ensure the CMDB remains a reliable source of truth for the organization.

What is a Remote CMDB?

A Remote CMDB (Configuration Management Database) is a centralized repository that stores information about the IT assets, configurations, and relationships within an organization's network, but is managed or accessed remotely. It is commonly used in IT service management to track and manage hardware, software, and other IT components, even if they are distributed across various locations. Remote CMDB solutions enable IT teams to monitor, update, and audit configuration data without needing to be physically present, enhancing efficiency and supporting remote or hybrid work environments.

Job description

At Tailored Brands, we help people love the way they look and feel for their most important moments. Our Technology team loves the way they feel and thrive at work, with:
• Flexible work opportunities, including remote and hybrid options
• Small, empowered teams that have fun delivering real value for our customers
• A culture that values a 50-year legacy while eagerly embracing the future
Want to be part of this? We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Sr IT Asset & Configuration Analyst to join our Tailored Technology team. This individual will be responsible for how Tailored Brands discovers, governs, and uses asset and configuration data across endpoints, applications, and hybrid/multi-cloud infrastructure. You will help evolve our CMDB/ITAM from recordkeeping into a trusted intelligence layer that enables automation, faster decisions, stronger security, and cost optimization. This is a strategic, hands-on role that owns the Ivanti CMDB/ITAM framework, including the data model, governance, integrations, and automation roadmap (including AI-enabled workflows). You will partner with teams across IT to drive adoption, protect data quality, and deliver measurable results at scale.
What you'll do
• Define and deliver a 3-5 year roadmap to modernize CMDB/ITAM, aligned with enterprise priorities.
• Build an asset intelligence framework that connects Ivanti CMDB/ITAM with discovery, observability, security, and FinOps tools.
• Maintain CMDB/ITAM as the single source of truth for assets, configuration items, relationships, and business services, with clear standards and governance.
• Define and govern data models, standards, and quality metrics; continuously improve accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
• Lead AI-enabled automation (e.g., discovery and classification, relationship mapping, data cleanup, and predictive insights).
• Own the Ivanti CMDB/ITAM framework, including Discovery, Service Mapping, HAM/SAM, integrations (IntegrationHub/API), and platform performance at scale.
• Provide near real-time reconciliation and reporting to support change impact analysis, vulnerability prioritization, and refresh planning.
• Build license optimization and SaaS management practices that reduce spend while staying compliant and audit-ready.
• Embed security and compliance controls (SOX/ISO and internal policies) into CMDB/ITAM processes with strong governance and audit trails.
• Partner with stakeholders to drive adoption, clarify operating models, and deliver measurable outcomes.
• Review major initiatives to ensure standard CMDB/ITAM integration patterns are used; mentor platform teams and solution architects.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
• 8+ years of experience in CMDB/IT Asset Management or large-scale transformation.
• Deep, hands-on Ivanti (or similar platform) experience across CMDB and ITAM/HAM/SAM, including Discovery, Service Mapping, data modeling, relationship mapping, and integrations.
• Proven ability to build governance frameworks, including data ownership, quality standards, operating models, and continuous improvement.
• Strong understanding of ITIL 4 Configuration & Asset Management and end-to-end asset lifecycle management (procurement through retirement).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and hybrid infrastructure patterns; familiarity with FinOps cost-optimization practices.
• Working knowledge of AI/ML and automation for IT operations (e.g., predictive insights, recommendations, NLP/virtual agents).
• Data and analytics skills (SQL, dashboards, performance metrics) with the ability to translate insights into executive-ready decisions.
• Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and drive change across a matrixed organization.
• Relevant certifications are strongly valued (e.g., CIS - CMDB/ITAM, CSA, ITIL 4).
