This role provides architectural direction for replacing legacy EdgeIQ components, implementing AWS Greengrass-based gateway capabilities, and ensuring that cloud, ingestion, and device management services align with cybersecurity, STIG, and Blue Water environment constraints.

Job Duties:

  • Architect and design AWS Greengrass-based replacement for the existing EdgeIQ gateway solution, including provisioning, deployment models, and secure data ingestion paths.
  • Lead cloud architecture for modernization across AWS GovCloud environments, supporting IoT ingestion, backend APIs, firmware workflows, RBAC, and IL4-compliant services.
  • Define gateway software migration approach from NETOS/legacy implementations to updated OS and Greengrass-compatible components while ensuring DoD IL4 compliance.
  • Provide architecture oversight for integration of Bluetooth Scanner, Device Manager, MQTT ingestion modules, and gateway online-state handling developed by IoT engineers.
  • Develop secure cloud-to-edge communication patterns, including OTA firmware update pathways in coordination with Firmware Integration Engineers.
  • Establish architecture baselines, backlog inputs, and environment readiness.
  • Collaborate with DevSecOps to enforce automated security controls, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and deployment hardening for GovCloud.
  • Ensure all designs comply with cybersecurity requirements, STIGs, Blue Water ATO constraints, and validated cloud/security boundaries.
  • Support technical documentation, design reviews, and controlled change management processes required for architectural governance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field such as engineering or mathematics (e.g. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Systems)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in software engineering to include 5 years of experience focused on cloud architecture in AWS.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing or deploying AWS Greengrass or comparable IoT edge runtimes.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with AWS IoT Core, MQTT pipelines, and device-to-cloud ingestion patterns.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience architecting solutions in AWS GovCloud or FedRAMP-authorized environments.
  • Must be US citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience supporting edge gateway migrations or embedded/IoT systems in compliance with DoD IL4 or similar cybersecurity requirements.
  • Agile Developer certification or Certified Scrum Developer certification
  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK) and CI/CD pipelines consistent with DevSecOps requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of STIGs, identity boundary constraints, RBAC models, and secure architecture controls as required by environments.
  • Ability to lead technical direction across multi-disciplinary teams (Backend Engineers, IoT Engineers, Firmware Engineers, Cybersecurity Engineers) as indicated by staffing model.
  • Experience engineering solutions for Radiation/Health Physics, industrial IoT, or high-security operational environments. Prior DoD program experience, preferable within Navy, involving ATO processes or working inside the Blue Water environment.
  • Familiarity with gateway component integration (Bluetooth readout, device scanning, online/offline workflows) used in client IoT subsystems.
  • Experience implementing secure OTA firmware distribution and signing/validation workflows for edge devices.
  • Knowledge of conflict-resolution data models, exposure tracking workflows, or legacy system migration concepts derived from functional requirements.
  • AWS Professional-level certifications (Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Professional). Experience with Zero Trust, Zscaler, or PingFed identity patterns similar to those in related GovCloud platform efforts
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in achieving excellent quality assurance goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills presenting material to senior executive personnel
  • Ability to organize, direct, and manage operation support functions involving multiple complex and inter-related projects and / or tasks.
