Job description

Role Type: Commission-Only, 1099 Independent Contractor
Location: Remote
Department: Sales
Reports To: Founder & CEO
Compensation Range: Uncapped, Commission-Only
Purpose: Drive revenue growth by closing new client deals using verified daily leads, proactive outreach, and relationship-building with small-business owners and HR decision-makers. This role requires both working company-provided leads and generating new opportunities through independent outreach to support Ellis Career & Talent's nationwide expansion.
About Ellis Career & Talentโ„ข
Ellis Career & Talentโ„ข is a people-first HR consulting and talent solutions firm serving small and midsize businesses nationwide. We provide outsourced HR support, recruiting-as-a-service, and employee development solutions that help organizations build stronger teams, improve retention, and scale confidently.
As a fast-growing startup, we're building a modern, efficient sales engine powered by verified daily leads, streamlined outreach systems, and high-value service offerings. Every team member plays a direct role in shaping our growth and expanding our nationwide presence.
About the Role
The Sales Representative (Commission-Only) role is designed for motivated, results-driven closers who thrive in a fast-moving startup environment and want uncapped earning potential.
You'll receive verified leads daily - each vetted for legitimacy and contact accuracy - but these leads are not guaranteed to be interested in HR or recruiting services. Because of this, Sales Representatives are expected to conduct their own outreach, generate additional leads, and build new opportunities outside of the company-provided pipeline.
This role emphasizes relationship-building, consultative selling, proactive outreach, and closing deals. If you're driven, resourceful, and ready to help scale a growing company, this position offers a rare opportunity to shape our sales department and grow alongside a nationwide expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Cycle & Lead Management
  • Run the full sales cycle from lead engagement โ†’ pitching โ†’ closing
  • Work-verified leads are provided daily through our internal outreach system
  • Conduct consistent follow-ups with prospects
  • Track activity, pipeline, and performance metrics independently

Proactive Outreach & Lead Generation
  • Generate new leads through independent outreach (email, social, networking, etc.)
  • Build your own supplemental pipeline to increase earning potential
  • Identify businesses that may benefit from HR or recruiting support
  • Maintain a steady flow of outbound communication to create new opportunities

Relationship-Building & Consultative Selling
  • Build rapport with small-business owners and HR decision-makers
  • Use consultative selling techniques to understand the prospect's needs
  • Present Ellis Career & Talent's HR and Talent Acquisition services clearly and confidently
  • Use scripts, templates, and outreach tools to maximize conversions

Process Improvement & Collaboration
  • Help refine sales processes and messaging for better performance
  • Collaborate directly with the Founder & CEO on sales strategy and positioning
  • Provide feedback on lead quality, outreach tools, and sales workflows
  • Support the development of a scalable, repeatable sales engine

Compensation Structure (Commission-Only)
Commission Model
This position is 100% commission-only with no base salary or hourly pay. Sales Representatives are hired as 1099 independent contractors and earn commission when clients complete payment for services.
Earning Potential
  • Commission rates range from 30% to 40%, depending on the service sold
  • Opportunities to earn high-ticket commissions on HR and Talent Acquisition packages
  • Monthly renewal bonuses available for long-term clients

Payouts
Commission is released upon payment of the client's final invoice. Payments are sent electronically on a bi-weekly schedule.
Who This Model Fits
This structure is ideal for high-drive closers who want uncapped earning potential, thrive in a startup environment, and are comfortable generating their own opportunities in addition to working verified leads.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Strong closing ability and sales acumen
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build rapport quickly with small-business owners and decision-makers
  • Comfort with commission-only compensation and performance-driven environments
  • Strong organization and follow-through on leads and pipeline
  • Resilient, resourceful, and able to handle rejection constructively
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Proactive mindset with consistent outbound activity

Experience Requirements
  • 1-3+ years of sales experience (B2B preferred)
  • Proven track record of closing deals or meeting sales targets
  • Experience generating leads and conducting outbound outreach
  • Familiarity with consultative selling and relationship-based sales
  • Experience in startup, agency, or service-based environments preferred

Benefits of the Role
While this is a commission-only, 1099 contractor role and not eligible for W-2 employee benefits, it offers meaningful professional and financial advantages:
  • Uncapped earning potential
  • Ground-floor opportunity with real influence
  • Direct collaboration with leadership
  • Flexible schedule and remote work
  • Verified leads provided daily
  • Opportunity to grow with a company scaling nationwide

Why This Role Matters
The Sales Representative is a key driver of Ellis Career & Talent's growth. By converting verified leads, generating new opportunities, and closing deals, this role directly impacts revenue, market expansion, and the success of our HR and Talent solutions.
This position helps build the foundation of our sales department and supports our mission to deliver people-first HR and talent services to businesses nationwide.
