Job description

Job Overview

 

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs tests on blood, body fluids and tissue samples to ensure that providers receive timely, accurate results for their ordered diagnostic testing.


JOB DUTIES

  • run tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology and blood banking
  • assess the accuracy of test results and enter the data into the database
  • evaluate test results to identify potential errors
  • operate, troubleshoot and maintain lab equipment, assureing that testing equipment is properly maintained
  • assure that quality control results are obtained as required and are within established acceptable ranges
  • update patient medical records with test results
  • work with team members and promote harmonious relationships and positive attitudes
  • Facilitates team building and a positive work environment. 

 

SKILLS

  • In-depth knowledge of chemistry, biology, anatomy and laboratory quality control best practices
  • Mathematical skills to double-check the accuracy of calculations
  • Analytical and observational skills to arrive at and evaluate accurate test results
  • Ability to use and maintain microscopes, centrifuges, autoclaves, oscilloscopes and other laboratory equipment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with medical providers and other lab personnel
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot equipment issues and determine potential causes of inaccurate test results
  • Computer skills to utilize email, spreadsheets and patient records management software
  • Understanding of the laws and regulations related to infection control, safety, data security and patient privacy


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current CLS License – will need California licensure upon starting work
  • ASCP certification preferred
  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
