What is a remote CIED specialist?

A Remote CIED (Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device) Specialist is a healthcare professional who monitors and manages patients with implanted cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators, often from a remote location. They analyze data transmitted from the devices to ensure they are functioning properly and to detect any abnormalities or issues. This remote monitoring helps provide timely interventions, reduces the need for in-person visits, and improves the overall care for cardiac patients. Remote CIED Specialists often work in collaboration with cardiologists and other healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote CIED specialist?

To excel as a Remote CIED Specialist, you need a strong background in cardiac electrophysiology, device management, and often a related healthcare degree or certification (such as IBHRE or CCDS). Familiarity with device interrogation software, remote monitoring platforms, and electronic health records is typically required. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial for interpreting device data and collaborating with healthcare teams. These competencies ensure accurate monitoring and timely intervention for patients with cardiac devices, directly impacting patient outcomes and safety.

How do remote Chief Information and Education Directors (CIEd) effectively manage communication and collaboration within geographically dispersed teams?

Remote CIEds often lead teams spread across different locations and time zones, which requires strong digital communication skills and adaptability. They typically utilize project management tools, video conferencing platforms, and regular virtual check-ins to ensure alignment and maintain team cohesion. Building trust and fostering an inclusive culture remotely can be challenging, but successful CIEds prioritize transparency, encourage feedback, and set clear expectations to overcome these obstacles. Establishing structured meeting cadences and leveraging collaborative technologies are key to keeping everyone engaged and informed.

Job description

About the Role
We are looking for a Cardiac Device Specialist to remotely monitor patients with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIEDs) using RhythmScience's proprietary software. This role requires expertise in cardiac electrophysiology, device function assessment, and biomedical analysis to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of remote patient diagnostics.
As a Cardiac Device Specialist, you will play a critical role in analyzing cardiac device performance, detecting abnormalities, and ensuring comprehensive clinical documentation to support effective patient management.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Diagnostic Analysis
  • Utilize expertise in cardiac physiology, pathophysiology, and device function to perform remote evaluations and diagnostic reviews.
  • Analyze and interpret CIED diagnostics from major manufacturers, including Medtronic, Abbott/St. Jude, Boston Scientific, and Biotronik.
  • Identify abnormal functions of pacemakers, defibrillators, ILRs, and CRT devices, providing recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Document findings with precision and accuracy following RhythmScience's best practice standards.

Patient & Provider Communication
  • Communicate technical device findings to clinicians and care teams with clear, professional, and standardized documentation.
  • Educate patients on device function and remote monitoring procedures as needed.
  • Coordinate and schedule remote monitoring protocols per clinical best practices and company guidelines.

Compliance & Security
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive patient data, adhering to HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI) standards.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies for data security and clinical documentation.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree required (nursing, medicine, electronics, or engineering preferred).
  • 2+ years of recent experience in cardiac device management.
  • Successful completion of a cardiac device rhythm management course or equivalent experience.
  • Experience interpreting diagnostics from all four major CIED manufacturers.
  • Proficiency with collaboration applications (Microsoft Office, Teams, Slack).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry training and experience in cardiac rhythm management.
  • Certifications such as Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT), Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT), Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), or International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) Certifications (CCDS, CEPS, CDRMS).

Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly Pay Range: The base hourly rate for this role is $25.00 - $38.71, depending on experience, qualifications, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation is determined based on internal equity, market competitiveness, and candidate-specific factors such as relevant clinical background or device experience.
  • Work Schedule: This is a remote position with a flexible schedule, aligned with patient monitoring protocols and business needs. Candidates may be required to occasionally align hours with U.S. time zones or clinic schedules.
  • Benefits Package:
    • Comprehensive healthcare including medical, dental, and vision coverage
    • Paid time off and company-recognized holidays
    • Flexible work environment supporting work-life balance

Additional Employment Information
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. RhythmScience Inc. does not provide visa sponsorship at this time.
