Position Summary

The Senior Inside Broker partners closely with a Producing Broker to manage and grow a significant wholesale Casualty book of business, supporting both renewals and new business placements. This role requires deep technical insurance expertise, strong E&S market knowledge, and experience structuring and placing complex wholesale casualty risks, including layered and projectspecific accounts.
This is a seniorlevel, executionheavy role for an experienced wholesale professional who understands urgency, market dynamics, and how to independently drive deals to close in a fastpaced environment.

What will your job entail?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Producing Broker to manage renewal and new business accounts within a wholesale Casualty / E&S book

  • Review and analyze submissions from retail agents, identifying exposures, coverage needs, and risk characteristics

  • Independently exercise judgment to structure, negotiate, and place complex wholesale casualty risks, including layered and projectspecific programs (e.g., $20M construction placements)

  • Identify appropriate wholesale and E&S markets, secure and compare quotes, and manage the full placement process through bind

  • Negotiate coverage terms, limits, pricing, and conditions to deliver optimal outcomes for brokers and carriers

  • Clearly explain quote structures, coverage details, and market feedback to retail brokers to support binding decisions

  • Serve as a trusted liaison between retail brokers, wholesale markets, and underwriting partners

  • Support revenue growth and retention of the assigned book, with the ability to expand business through strong broker relationships

  • Maintain meticulous account documentation, ensuring all submissions, quotes, binders, and policies are complete and compliant

  • Utilize carrier portals, and Microsoft Office/Teams/Outlook to manage workflow and communication

  • Participate in ongoing licensing, continuing education, and professional development efforts

Role Scope & Environment:

  • Focused on E&S casualty renewals and new business

  • Handles midtolarge premium accounts ($250K+)

  • Heavy exposure to construction and real estate risks

  • Works under high expectations for responsiveness and execution, within a collaborative, evenkeeled team culture

  • Six weeks of onboarding and handson training; Richmondbased candidates expected in office during training

Success Indicators:

  • Ability to independently manage and place complex wholesale casualty deals

  • Responsiveness and accuracy across renewals and new business submissions

  • Strength of retail broker and market relationships

  • Contribution to revenue growth and book profitability

  • Consistent adherence to compliance and documentation standards

Required Qualifications:

  • Active state P&C license required for consideration

  • 5+ years of experience in at least one of the following:

    • Wholesale Brokerage (Inside Broker / Senior Inside Broker)

    • E&S Casualty underwriting or placement

    • Commercial insurance brokerage with strong wholesale exposure

  • Demonstrated experience placing complex casualty risks and layered programs

  • Strong knowledge of E&S markets, underwriting appetite, and casualty coverage forms

  • Experience working with construction and/or real estate accounts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Surplus lines license or willingness to obtain

The target salary range for this position is $144,000.00 - $180,000.00 annually.
