Description
Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring a Compliance Assistant, Part Time in the Campus Operations Department. This role provides direct administrative and operational support to the College Compliance Officer, including preparing and distributing correspondence, managing confidential records and filing systems, assisting with compliance and Title IX inquiries, and maintaining accurate documentation of college policies and procedures. The position requires strong organizational and legal research skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional, confidential environment while ensuring efficient office operations.
Examples of Duties
General Operations:
  • Provide a full range of administrative assistance for the College Compliance Officer daily, including the typing, reproduction, and distribution of all forms of correspondence;
  • Assist with telephone calls and inquiries pertaining to college compliance;
  • Assist with telephone calls and inquiries related to Title IX;
  • Familiarize and maintain comprehensive records of all academic policies, procedures and other related documents pertaining to standard operating procedures;
  • Maintain a system of filing and record keeping that will provide for or lend itself to immediate access and information recovery;
  • Maintain a workstation that will reflect professionalism in appearance and purpose;
  • Exercise politeness and tact in institutional and public communications and all
  • other matters relating to job duties and responsibilities.
  • Additional duties shall include other appropriate activities as assigned by the Vice President, Chief Campus Operations Officer.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Paralegal Technology
  • NC Bar certification

Work Experience:
  • One year of paralegal experience. Public sector experience preferred.
  • Experience performing duties including word processing, filing, record keeping, organizational skills and the use of office machines

Supplemental Information
  1. Typing proficiency of fifty-five correct words per minute.
  2. Effective organizational, record keeping, and word processing skills.
  3. The ability to follow instructions, work with a team and to work independently.
  4. The ability to work in an environment requiring confidentiality.
  5. Proficiency in legal research of the North Carolina General Statutes (primarily Chapter 115D), the State Board of Community Colleges Code (SBCC Code), state and federal regulations, including FERPA, HIPAA, Title IX, Title VII, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and state and federal case law.
  6. Proficiency in legal drafting and proofreading legal documents, maintaining, and organizing electronic and physical office files.
  7. Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  8. Understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of a community college.
