What is a remote chief actuary?

A Remote Chief Actuary is a senior-level actuary who leads an organization's actuarial department while working from a remote location rather than in a traditional office setting. They are responsible for overseeing risk assessments, financial modeling, and strategic planning related to insurance, pensions, or other financial products. This role involves managing teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing expert advice to executives, all while leveraging technology to collaborate and communicate effectively from anywhere. Working remotely allows for greater flexibility and access to a broader talent pool, but also requires excellent self-management and digital communication skills.

How does a remote chief actuary typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business strategy?

This often involves leading virtual meetings, presenting complex actuarial analyses in an accessible way, and providing strategic recommendations to inform product development, pricing, and risk management. Effective communication and digital collaboration tools are essential for maintaining strong relationships and ensuring your actuarial perspective is integrated into company-wide decision-making.

  • Client training & implementation: Leading client training and implementation efforts by delivering customized onboarding experiences, ensuring seamless software adoption, and providing continuous support.

  • Industry Thought Leadership: Present at industry conferences and Akur8 Academy Webinars to continue Akur8’s thought leadership in the insurance industry.

  • Client advocacy: Serving as advocate of the client within our company, gathering and sharing feedback with the sales and product teams to support ongoing improvement.

  • Solution mastery: Demonstrating a solid understanding of accepted insurance finance and actuarial calculations alongside bespoke reserving analysis concepts. Mastering common outputs and reporting needs of a reserve analysis.

  • Training and support for solution partners: Developing and maintaining strong relationships with our delivery partners (key consulting and technology firms) to assist them in the delivery of training and support to our mutual clients.

IMPORTANT: This position is a hybrid or remote position (with +/- 5 days of travel per month), for someone based in the Eastern or Central timezones of the United States.
