ย About Power to Decideย  ย 

Power to Decide is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to advance sexual and reproductive well-being for all by providing trusted information, expanding access to quality services, and catalyzing culture change.ย 

Positionย 

The Chief Financial & People Officer (CFPO) is responsible for defining and driving the organization's financial and people strategy, managing the finance and People & Culture functions, and ensuring alignment between mission, resources, and organizational design.ย 

The CFPO reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is the primary liaison to the Board of Directors' Finance & Audit Committee. The CFPO is also a member of the organization's collaborative senior leadership team. This role ensures that the organization stewards its human capital and financial resources efficiently and effectively in service of our mission to achieve sexual and reproductive health for all.ย 

Responsibilitiesย 

Manage a team of five including direct supervision of the Senior Director, People & Culture, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, and Manager, People & Culture positions. Manage and oversee People & Culture, including responsibility and accountability for:

  • Fostering a positive, safe, equitable, and inclusive organizational culture
  • Design and alignment of roles, responsibilities, and reporting structures in partnership with the CEO and Chiefs
  • Fostering professional development and growth
  • Performance and accountability systems
  • Compensation and benefit structure
  • Compliance with employment laws

Manage and oversee all financial activities, providing financial oversight and monitoring, including:

  • Establish and maintain appropriate financial policies and internal accounting controls and oversee accounting systems
  • Advising the CEO, Chiefs, and the Board of Directors of the organization's financial position and culture.ย ย 
  • Lead and support organizational budgeting process and multi-year financial planning to support organizational strategy and growth
  • Direct the preparation for independent audits including preparation of draft financial statements and information for Form 990
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition for all sources of income
  • Supervise month-end closing process including review and approval of employee expense reports, credit card transactions, and account reconciliations.
  • Review and analyze financial proposals and reports.
  • Partner with the Vice President, Strategy & Development on issues of shared responsibility including accounting for philanthropic gifts, revenue projections, and annual charitable registration filings.
  • Collaborate with program leads to monitor and regularly review programmatic progress and spending on restricted grants
  • Collaborate with program and development staff in developing proposal budgets
  • Establish and maintain fiscal relationships including banking, investment, IRS, and independent auditors.ย 

Qualificationsย

The successful candidate will be/have:ย 

  • Bachelor's degreeย 
  • A minimum of 10 - 15 years of relevant experience as a chief financial officer, finance director, or controller with human resources management in a not-for-profit organizationย 
  • Seven years of supervisory experienceย ย 
  • In-depth experience and familiarity with not-for-profit GAAP, particularly revenue recognition and grant accounting, and 501(c)(3) compliance requirementsย 
  • Superb review skills with great attention to detailย 
  • High degree of proficiency with leading HRIS and accounting software and applications (Microsoft Dynamics Business Central preferred) and strong spreadsheet skillsย 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and monitoring organizational operating budgetsย 
  • Comfortable working virtually with remote staff, using cloud-based communication and software systemsย 
  • Ability to quickly synthesize information and make informed decisionsย 
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to translate complicated financial and legal compliance issues into accessible terms.ย 
  • Ability to work with a high level of discretion regarding confidential matterย

The Chief Financial & People Officer is an exempt position. Salary is based on market factors and individual experience and abilities. The starting salary range for this position is $189,700 - $234,600.ย ย
