Day in the Life of a Certifying Scientist
  • Certify toxicology results from LC-MS/MS analysis by evaluating chromatographic data, retention times, ion ratios, and quantitation curves.

  • Review quality control (QC) and calibration performance for each analytical batch, documenting any discrepancies and initiating corrective action if necessary.

  • Interpret complex drug testing profiles based on known pharmacokinetics and metabolism, and flag potential inconsistencies or issues.

  • Ensure proper documentation of all reviews, certifying events, and any communications in accordance with lab SOPs and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with lab personnel and clinical providers as needed via secure communication channels (email, LIS, video conferencing).

  • Support audit readiness by ensuring data integrity, traceability, and proper documentation practices.

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and CLIA regulations at all times.

  • Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement among laboratory staff

  • Provide on-site laboratory coverage as needed, with up to 25% travel required.

Education and Experience requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Technology, or related scientific field

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating LC-MS/MS systems in a toxicology or clinical lab

  • Familiarity with common LC-MS platforms (e.g., Sciex, Shimadzu, Thermo) and associated software

  • Strong understanding of drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, and toxicological principles.

  • Excellent attention to detail and data integrity practices

  • Knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA regulations

Travel

Remote but required to travel ~25%.
