What is a Remote Call On Doc?

A Remote Call On Doc is a healthcare professional, typically a physician, who provides medical consultations and support to patients or medical staff via telecommunication methods rather than being physically present on-site. These doctors are 'on-call' to address urgent medical needs, give advice, or make clinical decisions remotely. This role is especially common in telemedicine, rural healthcare support, and after-hours medical coverage. Remote Call On Docs help increase access to medical care, reduce response times, and offer expertise in situations where in-person doctors may not be immediately available.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Call On Doc?

To excel as a Remote Call On Doc (telemedicine physician), you need a valid medical degree, board certification, and strong clinical decision-making skills. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHR), and secure communication systems is essential. Excellent communication, empathy, and adaptability are crucial for building trust and effectively assessing patients remotely. These competencies are vital for delivering high-quality care, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining compliance in a virtual healthcare environment.

What are some common challenges remote call-on doctors face, and how can they effectively manage them?

Remote call-on doctors often encounter challenges such as managing a high volume of patient inquiries, maintaining clear communication without face-to-face interaction, and balancing work-life boundaries due to the flexible nature of remote shifts. To manage these, it's important to establish a dedicated workspace, use secure and efficient telehealth platforms, and set clear expectations with both patients and care teams. Regular check-ins with colleagues and leveraging digital documentation tools can also help streamline workflows and ensure high-quality patient care.

Job Description

About CallonDoc

CallonDoc is a leading telemedicine platform delivering affordable, accessible care nationwide. We operate a high-volume D2C model with growing subscription programs and emerging B2B SaaS/licensing, plus pharmacy and lab partnerships.

Role Summary

We’re seeking a hands-on Controller to build and run our finance engine: clean GAAP accounting, ASC 606 revenue recognition, multi-entity consolidation, internal controls, and decision-grade forecasting for a high-velocity, tech-enabled healthcare business.

What You’ll Own:

Accounting & Close

  • Lead the monthly close (target ≤10 business days); own BS, P&L, and Cash Flow.
  • Manage GL integrity, accruals/deferrals, reconciliations (banks, Stripe, partners).

Revenue Recognition & Multi-Entity

  • Apply ASC 606 across on-demand visits, subscriptions, pharmacy/lab rev-share, and B2B SaaS.
  • Perform multi-entity consolidations (OpCo, management company, property LLCs).

Controls, Compliance & Audit Readiness

  • Design and maintain internal controls, approval matrix, policies (AP/expense, capitalization, close checklist).
  • Coordinate with external CPA for tax, audits, and compliance; align with HIPAA/SOC2 processes for finance data flows.

FP&A, Forecasting & Unit Economics

  • Build rolling 12–36 month forecasts and budget vs. actuals.
  • Model unit economics: async/sync units, pooled subscription units, provider cost per unit, margin by service line.
  • Create CEO-ready dashboards: CAC/ROAS, retention, cohorts, gross margin, cash runway.

Systems & Scale

  • Optimize QBO or lead migration to NetSuite/Intacct when appropriate.
  • Own finance stack: Stripe/Chargebee, Bill.com, Gusto/ADP; implement BI dashboards (Looker/Tableau/Power BI/Databox).

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and elevate the current bookkeeper into a Senior Accountant; set SLAs and operating cadence.

What You’ve Done (Qualifications):

  • 8–12+ years progressive accounting/finance experience with time inside operating companies (not only public/tax).
  • Direct experience in telehealth/healthcare services and SaaS/subscription models.
  • Demonstrated ownership of monthly close, ASC 606, multi-entity consolidation, and internal controls.
  • Proven oversight of multi-state tax compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets (PowerQuery, complex pivots, scenario modeling).
  • Familiarity with HIPAA considerations for finance data and SOC2 alignment.
  • Tools: QBO or NetSuite/Intacct; Stripe/Chargebee; Bill.com; Gusto/ADP; BI dashboards.
  • CPA preferred (or equivalent rigor); HFMA/CHFP a plus.

Benefits:

  • 401(k) matching
  • Health insurance
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
