What Does a Remote Business Analyst Do?

As a remote business analyst, your duties and responsibilities are to evaluate and perform analysis on different types of business information, such as price variance for products across large regions, conduct consumer product and market research, and survey consumers to gain more information for your business or client. Business analysts often evaluate internal processes as well and provide recommendations for ways to improve efficiency, cut costs, or expand services throughout the organization, such as by implementing new technology, rationalizing logistics, and streamlining project budgets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Business Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Business Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and a background in business, finance, or information technology, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with data analysis tools (like Excel, SQL, Tableau), requirements management software (such as Jira or Confluence), and virtual collaboration platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for effectively gathering requirements and collaborating with distributed teams. These skills ensure accurate solutions, efficient teamwork, and successful project outcomes in a remote work environment.

How does a Remote Business Analyst effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working offsite?

Remote Business Analysts frequently use digital collaboration tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and project management platforms to stay connected with stakeholders, developers, and project managers. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and proactive communication are essential to bridge the distance and ensure alignment on project goals. While working remotely, setting clear expectations and maintaining transparency helps streamline workflows and keeps everyone engaged. Many organizations also encourage remote analysts to participate in virtual workshops or brainstorming sessions to foster a sense of teamwork.

What are remote business analysts?

They utilize digital tools to communicate with stakeholders, conduct virtual meetings, and document findings. This role requires strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment.

Job description

Business Analyst – Marketing & Performance Insights (Remote – U.S.)Location: Remote (United States)Job Type: Full-TimePay: $85,000 – $95,000 annually (based on experience)About Us

The Heartland Roadshow operates nationwide buying events across the United States, specializing in estate jewelry, precious metals, coins, and collectibles. At each event, our buyers interact directly with customers in real time, and marketing plays a key role in driving attendance and performance.

We are hiring a Business Analyst to turn performance and marketing data into actionable insights that directly impact how we run and improve our events across the country.

The Role

This role goes beyond reporting.

You will analyze marketing performance, buyer activity, and event outcomes to identify what is working, what is not, and what should change.

You will not only build reports—you will interpret them, challenge them, and go deeper to uncover additional insights that drive better decisions across the business.

What You’ll Be Working On
  • Marketing performance data tied to event attendance and buyer engagement

  • Buyer performance reports across nationwide events

  • Multi-layer analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities

  • Building and refining reports to answer deeper business questions

  • Translating raw data into clear recommendations for leadership

Core Responsibilities
  • Analyze marketing and event performance data to identify trends and insights

  • Evaluate buyer performance and connect results back to marketing activity

  • Build and maintain reports that summarize performance across multiple events and regions

  • Identify gaps in reporting and proactively develop additional analysis when needed

  • Translate data into actionable recommendations for leadership

  • Support ongoing optimization of marketing strategy and event effectiveness

  • Present findings in a clear, business-focused way (not just dashboards or charts)

What Success Looks Like
  • Leadership understands why performance is happening, not just what happened

  • Reports consistently evolve into deeper analysis, not static outputs

  • Insights directly influence marketing and event strategy decisions

  • You proactively identify questions the business should be asking

Ideal Candidate ProfileMust-Have
  • Strong experience in data or business analytics roles

  • Ability to interpret data and turn it into actionable business insights

  • Experience working with marketing, performance, or customer data

  • Strong Excel and/or data analysis skills

  • Experience building reports and presenting insights to leadership

Preferred
  • Strong Power BI or Tableau experience (highly preferred)

  • Experience in marketing analytics or performance-driven environments

  • Experience with multi-location or event-based businesses

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Key Traits
  • Curious and investigative (doesn’t stop at surface-level reporting)

  • Comfortable challenging what the data is showing

  • Strong communication and storytelling with data

  • Naturally connects data to business decisions

The Heartland Roadshow is committed to a fair, respectful, and inclusive hiring process, evaluating candidates based on their experience and alignment with the role.
