What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Building Energy Modeler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Building Energy Modeler, you need expertise in building science, energy analysis, and a background in engineering or architecture, often supported by certifications like LEED or BEMP. Proficiency in specialized software such as EnergyPlus, eQUEST, IES VE, or OpenStudio is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret results and collaborate with remote teams and clients. These skills are critical for producing accurate models, optimizing building performance, and ensuring compliance with energy codes and sustainability goals.

What is remote building energy modeling?

Remote building energy modeling is the process of analyzing and simulating a building's energy usage and performance using specialized software, all conducted from an off-site location. Professionals in this field use digital building plans, utility data, and sometimes remote sensing tools to create detailed models that predict energy consumption, identify efficiency opportunities, and support sustainability goals. This approach allows for collaboration across distances and can reduce costs and time compared to traditional, on-site modeling. It is commonly used in both new construction and retrofitting projects to optimize energy systems and comply with regulatory standards.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a professional working in remote building energy modeling?

Professionals in remote building energy modeling typically spend their days analyzing architectural drawings, inputting data into energy modeling software, and running simulations to forecast building performance. They often collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers via virtual meetings to ensure the accuracy of their models and provide energy efficiency recommendations. Additionally, they prepare detailed reports summarizing findings and may assist with compliance documentation for green building certifications. Adapting to remote workflows and clear digital communication are important aspects of this role.

Job description

National Accounts Fleet Director (Remote)

Competitive compensation and sales-based upside aligned with volume of orders for existing customers and new sales.

The Opportunity

This is a director-level, individual-contributor sales role for Autocar, America's first specialized truck brand in North America and the only American-owned and operated original equipment manufacturer (OEM) building trucks exclusively for severe-duty vocational work. Autocar is positioned to win in the refuse and environmental services industry with products that compete on performance, safety, reliability, and total lifecycle cost. We have strong customer relationships and a clear foothold in the market.

As the National Accounts Fleet Director, you'll play a pivotal role in driving sales growth by managing and growing Autocar's most strategic national fleet relationships in the refuse vocational sector across the country. We are open to proven national account leaders as well as exceptional emerging talent with the track record, industry credibility, and commercial capability to succeed at a director level.

What You Will Own

The National Accounts Fleet Director serves as the primary commercial owner of assigned national fleet relationships for large-fleet operators running 200 or more vehicles, developing strategies to meet their needs with an emphasis on understanding vocational applications and truck component functionality. Those relationships will be direct with fleet managers, district managers, operations directors, key decision makers, and C-suite executives. You own the relationship directly with your customers - we don't delegate our relationships to third parties. When a customer has a truck down, they call our ALWAYS UP factory support center and reach engineers who build Autocar trucks.

Autocar's direct model means your relationships are real, your commitments are backed by the factory, and your uptime promise is something you can believe in. We do not sell trucks; we partner with our customers and provide the right tools for their business. That's the Autocar difference, and it's what you get to sell.

Key ResponsibilitiesOwn National Fleet Accounts:
  • Develop and grow direct relationships with key national fleet customers in the refuse vocational sector, focusing on operators running 200-plus vehicles.
  • Serve as the point of contact for national fleet customers - no channel conflict, no layers between you and the customers you support - ensuring exceptional service and accountability from the factory.
  • Build long-cycle, trust-based partnerships grounded in a genuine understanding of vocational applications and truck component functionality, and the customer's operational model, fleet economics, and performance pressures.
  • Increase revenue, expand market share, and strengthen Autocar's position within strategic fleet customers.
Drive National Account Growth Through Direct Sales:
  • Drive national sales efforts by developing strategies tailored to the needs of large fleet customers in the refuse and vocational sectors, aligned to their fleet replacement cycles, capital budget timelines, and operational requirements.
  • Utilizing an in-depth understanding of vocational truck applications and component functionality, articulate the total cost of ownership case for Autocar trucks with rigor, connecting ALWAYS UP direct factory support and uptime performance to quantifiable fleet economics.
  • Use fleet data, route assessment information, and market intelligence to identify fleet expansion opportunities, competitive replacement opportunities, and growth within strategic accounts.
  • Present proposals, negotiate contracts, and represent the company in high-level discussions, demonstrating deep industry knowledge and application expertise.
  • Serve as the primary commercial owner of assigned national fleet relationships and partner cross-functionally to support fleet growth, customer retention, and strategic account expansion.
Consult on Customer Needs:
  • Conduct in-depth operational reviews with fleet managers, route managers, and district managers to diagnose truck specification requirements, uptime gaps, and fleet performance challenges.
  • Translate customer operational requirements into precise truck specifications across Autocar's refuse product lines.
  • Partner with Autocar's product engineering and production teams to relay customer requirements and field performance data - leveraging the direct-factory model as a competitive advantage - and ensuring every solution is buildable, supportable, and differentiated to meet your customer's operational demands.
Who You Are
  • This role is designed for both experienced national account leaders and high-performing professionals who have consistently operated above their current level and are ready to assume director-level responsibility. Autocar invests in the right people.
  • You have at least 5-7 years of demonstrated success within the refuse industry (required industry experience), owning customer relationships, fleet operations, or commercial growth.

  • You bring either:

- experience selling directly to end-user fleets as an OEM representative, manufacturer's direct sales representative, or comparable commercial role within the waste industry; or

- experience in fleet management, route management, or operations within the waste industry.

  • You possess a deep understanding of refuse operations, fleet economics, truck specifications, and the operational challenges faced by fleet customers.
  • Strong differentiators include relationships at national or major regional haulers (WM, Republic, GFL, or comparable), expertise in refuse truck specs, or experience with municipal RFP procurement and private fleet buying processes.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
  • You are willing to travel weekly within your assigned account portfolio - typically leaving your home office on Monday and returning Thursday evening.
Why AutocarNo layers between you and your customers. You own the relationship.

Factory to fleet, direct. Your customer gets your number and Autocar's - that's the chain.

ALWAYS UP: 24/7 direct factory support.

Your customers reach the engineers around the clock who build our trucks. That's hard to compete against.

Built for each refuse customer.

Every truck Autocar builds is severe-duty vocational. We are not a line-haul OEM with a refuse attachment.

Remote. No relocation required.

Work remotely from one of our designated markets while managing strategic fleet relationships throughout your assigned account portfolio.

Oh yeah, and you'll enjoy
  • Competitive compensation that recognizes your skills, experience, and impact.
  • Eligibility for sales-based variable compensation that rewards volume of orders for existing customers and new sales.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life and AD&D insurance, and short-term and long-term disability to support your well-being.
  • 401(k) with a company match to help you invest in your future.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and company holidays to rest, recharge, and maintain work-life balance.
  • And more...
About AutocarAutocar, LLC is more than a severe-duty vocational truck manufacturer-we built America's first motor truck and remain the oldest specialized truck brand in North America. As the only American-owned and operated truck OEM, Autocar has spent more than a century delivering purpose-built performance, durability, and reliability for the most demanding vocational applications.

Today, we continue that legacy by building trucks that work as hard as the people who depend on them. Working closely with customers, we engineer trucks to their exact specifications for environments where uptime and performance are critical.

Autocar's refuse truck lineup includes the Class 6-8 ACMD cabover, Class 8 ACX cabover, and DC-64 Class 8 conventional cab. To maximize uptime, every customer has 24/7 access to ALWAYS UP direct factory support, staffed by the same experts who engineer and build our trucks. Our commitment is simple: deliver the best value, the best service, and complete solutions for our customers' needs.

Autocar is part of the GVW Group, a global investment company with interests spanning manufacturing, technology, distribution, engineering, big data, and energy efficiency, supporting a portfolio of trusted brands across multiple industries.
