Job description

Location: This position can be performed remotely within Florida or Georgia.

The SBA Loan Booking & Funding Specialist serves as a subject matter expert for SBA loan products, providing end-to-end operational support while delivering a high-touch customer service experience to internal partners and external clients. This role is responsible for preparing, reviewing, booking, and funding SBA loans in compliance with SBA guidelines, bank policies, and regulatory requirements.

In addition to technical execution, this position plays a consultative role—supporting lenders, branch personnel, and operations teams through expert guidance, proactive communication, and issue resolution to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant loan delivery.

JOB SUMMARY:

Perform all functions required to prepare the appropriate consumer, marine and simple commercial loan documents in accordance with Bank policies, procedures and regulatory compliance based on borrowing entity, purpose of proceeds and collateral securing loan request. Perform a variety of duties relating to the booking of most loan types. Perform balancing functions for and research outages in general ledger accounts. Provide support for department managers.

SBA Loan Expertise & Operations

  • Prepare, review, and book SBA loan documentation accurately and efficiently, ensuring alignment with SBA program requirements, Bank policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for SBA loans, including documentation, booking, funding, servicing considerations, and system uploads.
  • Review loan applications, credit approvals, and internal documentation to confirm completeness, accuracy, and SBA eligibility prior to booking and funding.
  • Upload and process SBA loan transactions, including new loans, extensions, modifications, assumptions, renewals, and conversions, within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Balance and process loan-related monetary transactions and perform necessary follow-up to resolve discrepancies.

Customer Service & Relationship Management

  • Act as a primary point of contact for SBA-related inquiries from lenders, branch staff, and internal operations partners, providing clear guidance and timely resolution.
  • Maintain a customer-first mindset when responding to external customer and internal stakeholder questions, ensuring professionalism, clarity, and responsiveness.
  • Proactively communicate missing or outstanding documentation, status updates, and next steps to drive loan closure and funding timelines.
  • Build strong partnerships with Lending, SBA Sales, Credit, and Branch teams to deliver a seamless and positive client experience.

Tracking, Reporting & Workflow Management

  • Maintain tracking tools and spreadsheets to monitor SBA loan workflow, priorities, and outstanding items.
  • Perform all required follow-up activities to ensure loans progress efficiently through documentation, booking, and funding stages.
  • Support department managers with reporting, workflow visibility, and special projects related to SBA loan operations.

Controls, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Balance and reconcile general ledger accounts related to loan activity, including Loan Control, researching and resolving out-of-balance conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with SBA regulations, bank policies, internal controls, and audit standards.
  • Adhere to AML/BSA requirements, dual control procedures, security standards, business continuity expectations, and all regulatory banking requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date procedures and documentation related to SBA loan booking and funding activities.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with internal teams to identify process improvements, operational efficiencies, and opportunities to enhance the SBA client experience.
  • Contribute expertise to training, cross-functional support, and knowledge sharing related to SBA loan processes.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma required; some college coursework preferred.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of general banking experience, with strong preference for SBA loan operations, servicing, documentation, or funding experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SBA loan programs, regulatory requirements, and documentation standards.
  • Strong customer service background with proven ability to communicate complex information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to learn and navigate multiple loan origination and servicing systems.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
