Job description

Company Description

Trupanion is a leading provider of medical insurance for cats and dogs in North America. Our mission is to help loving, responsible pet owners budget and care for their pets. At Trupanion, we offer a collaborative, casual, and pet-friendly environment where everyone is encouraged to be themselves.

Job Description

Trupanion is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Billing Systems Administrator (Zuora) to own the configuration, administration, and ongoing evolution of the Zuora platform and associated billing technology. This role sits at the critical intersection of Finance, Technology, and Operations, ensuring our billing infrastructure not only runs smoothly but also drives measurable value for the business.

You will be responsible for day-to-day Zuora system administration, configuration, and testing, while also supporting the development and implementation of other billing tools and shaping how billing capabilities enable growth, improve member experiences, and support go-to-market strategies. This role requires someone equally comfortable digging into technical details, leading cross-functional initiatives, and thinking strategically about how billing systems can optimize revenue collection, reduce failed payments, and enable new product features.

Ideal candidates will bring hands-on experience administering Zuora (required), payment service providers, and compliance frameworks (such as PCI), alongside proven project leadership skills and a strong business analyst orientation. Success in this position requires a working understanding of coding concepts and the ability to collaborate closely with developers responsible for upstream integrations into the billing platform.

This position is open to candidates in the Seattle area. You will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 3 days a week.

  Responsibilities:

  • Own ongoing configuration, administration, and support of the Zuora platform and associated billing technologies to ensure scalability, stability, and accuracy.
  • Lead testing and validation for new configurations, integrations, and enhancements.
  • Partner with developers and technical teams to support development, implementation, and optimization of other billing tools and integrations with internal and external platforms.
  • Act as the business analyst for billing initiatives - gathering requirements, mapping processes, and translating business needs into effective system solutions.
  • Lead billing and payments projects end-to-end, coordinating across Finance, Operations, Technology, and Product teams.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to reduce failed payments, improve collections, and enhance member experience.
  • Support new product launches and go-to-market strategies by ensuring billing capabilities are designed, tested, and deployed to align with business needs.
  • Monitor Zuora and associated platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to maximize uptime and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with PCI and other regulatory requirements, supporting internal and external audits as needed.
  • Stay current on billing and payments best practices, advising leadership on opportunities to evolve the platform to support business growth.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in billing systems administration, revenue operations, or a related field, ideally with exposure to subscription-based business models.
  • Hands-on Zuora administration experience required.
  • Familiarity with payment service providers and payment optimization strategies.
  • Knowledge of PCI DSS and other regulatory/compliance frameworks.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and initiatives in a complex business environment.

Skills:

  • A balance of strategic perspective and tactical execution - able to shape the billing roadmap while also diving into system details.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to optimize billing processes and reduce revenue leakage.
  • Experience supporting new product features and translating go-to-market strategies into billing and payments solutions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, building strong relationships across teams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Agility in adapting to shifting priorities and business needs.
  • A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with curiosity to continuously improve billing and payment operations.

Compensation:

  • The base salary range for this position is $110,000 - $120,000, on a full-time schedule.
  • Along with base salary, Trupanion employees may be eligible for monthly bonuses.
  • We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion's success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members. Our new hire grants vest over 4 years.
