Job description

Hiive is redefining how private companies and their shareholders access liquidity. Through its institutional-grade platform, Hiive brings together buyers, sellers, and issuers to facilitate secondary transactions in venture-backed, pre-IPO companies, introducing efficiency, transparency, and standardization to an otherwise opaque asset class.
Recognized as one of Canada's fastest-growing companies and backed by leading U.S. investors, Hiive is profitable, well-capitalized, and building a high-performance team to meet growing demand and pursue new market opportunities.
Interested in learning more about life at Hiive? Check out our careers page to see how you can grow with us!
As a Developer Experience Engineer at Hiive, you will build the tooling, workflows, and AI-enabled development practices that help every engineer move faster. You will treat Engineering as your customer, identify the highest-friction parts of the software development lifecycle, and ship practical improvements that make development simpler, faster, and more reliable. This is a high-ownership role for someone who loves building for builders and wants to shape how AI becomes part of day-to-day engineering work.
In this role, your responsibilities would include:
  • Building internal tools, templates, scripts, and workflows that reduce friction across local development, testing, CI/CD, deployment, observability, and code review.
  • Leading practical AI adoption across Engineering by evaluating tools, designing usage patterns, creating examples, and helping teams apply AI safely in real delivery work.
  • Partnering with product engineers to discover bottlenecks, prioritize the highest-impact improvements, and measure whether tooling changes improve speed, quality, or developer satisfaction.
  • Creating and maintain golden paths for common engineering workflows, including new services, environment setup, recurring development tasks, and release processes.
  • Improving documentation, onboarding, and self-service support so engineers can solve common workflow problems without interrupting other teams.
  • Designing automation that removes repetitive work, reduces manual handoffs, and makes engineering systems easier to operate.
  • Contributing production-quality code and collaborate closely with platform, product engineering, security, and data teams.

Required Skills:
  • Experience building internal developer tools, platform tooling, engineering productivity systems, CI/CD workflows, or comparable software infrastructure.
  • Strong software engineering ability in at least one modern programming language, with enough range to work across scripts, services, APIs, and developer-facing integrations.
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools, coding agents, workflow automation, or applying AI to software delivery.
  • Ability to turn ambiguous developer pain points into clear problems, lightweight experiments, and shipped tooling improvements.
  • Experience with modern development workflows, including Git, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and production operations.
  • Clear written communication and documentation habits, especially for internal technical audiences.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with developer portals, service templates, internal platforms, Backstage, or similar self-service tooling.
  • Experience in a high-growth fintech, marketplace, or regulated technology environment.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code, containers, cloud platforms, or deployment automation.
  • Experience creating internal enablement programs, engineering playbooks, or AI adoption guidelines.

Compensation: Highly competitive compensation commensurate with experience and contribution.
  • Vancouver, BC: $160,000-$220,000
  • Remote, Canada: $160,000-$215,000
  • Remote, USA: $175,000-$225,000 USD

For this role, the estimated total compensation range is listed above. The actual base salary, variable bonus (if applicable), and options grant will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the range for this role may be modified.
Benefits & Perks:
  • Opportunity to participate in ownership of a rapidly growing company through our employee stock option plan.
  • Comprehensive 100% employer-paid health & dental premiums and a Health/Personal Spending Account for Canadian employees. (An employer-subsidized benefits program is available for US-based team members).
  • If you are based in Vancouver, enjoy a dedicated desk in our Vancouver, BC HQ, in the heart of downtown, with a fridge stocked with healthy snacks and drinks, an onsite gym, and a gorgeous rooftop amenity.
  • Vancouver based employees enjoy a $20-per-day commuter benefit for every day you work in our downtown HQ.
  • An engaging social calendar, including bi-weekly catered lunches, bi-weekly "Friday bar," team workouts, annual summer party, and holiday party, two "onsite" all-team retreats each year, semi-annual team-building events, and Hiive Women's Network events.
  • Significant opportunities for growth into team leadership and management roles.
  • Entrepreneurial culture and a small and dynamic team.
  • Sponsorship, immigration, and relocation for exceptional candidates.

Hiive is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all individuals have an opportunity to succeed.
