Job description

The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Senior Electrical Engineer with 5-7+ years of experience, including 3-4 years in renewable energy, to support our growing clean energy practice.
This role will serve as a technical lead within a consulting team, supporting the design and development of solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The ideal candidate will contribute to conceptual and detailed design, lead project execution, and support the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions for renewable energy projects.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Lead electrical engineering efforts for solar PV and BESS projects
  • Develop conceptual and detailed system designs, including:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Equipment layouts
    • Construction details
    • System performance studies
  • Prepare solar array layouts using PVcase and AutoCAD
  • Design protection schemes (switchgear, breakers, relays, fuses)
  • Support utility interconnection applications
  • Apply knowledge of NEC, IEEE, UL, and applicable codes and standards (480V-35kV systems)
  • Perform QA/QC reviews and ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Conduct due diligence reviews, including:
    • Engineering design reviews
    • Glint and glare studies
    • Energy yield and performance analysis
  • Review RFIs, support construction observation, and coordinate with clients and contractors
  • Support field investigations, including site assessments and data collection
  • Serve as a technical lead, mentoring junior engineers and supporting multiple projects
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (power systems or renewable energy focus preferred)
  • 5+ years of electrical design experience, including renewable energy projects
  • 3-4 years of direct renewable energy experience
  • Proficiency in:
    • AutoCAD (required)
    • Engineering analysis and design software
    • GIS and database tools
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • NEC, IEEE, and UL standards
    • Utility-scale solar PV system design (central or string inverter systems)
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented consulting environment
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license within 2 years
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Experience with:
    • PVSyst (solar performance modeling)
    • ETAP or similar power system analysis software
    • HOMER (microgrid optimization)
    • Energy Toolbase (BESS performance analysis)
  • Experience with:
    • SCADA systems, microgrid controllers, and power metering
    • SEL relays

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform computer-based work for extended periods
  • Ability to participate in field visits and site assessments as needed

  • Office, remote, or hybrid work environment depending on location
  • Occasional fieldwork and travel for site visits and project support

Compensation:
Pay commensurate with experience.
Pay Range: $120,000-$160,000 annually
