How much do remote battery scientist jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 9, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote battery scientist in the United States is $127,031.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $109,000.00 and $143,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Are battery engineers in demand?

Battery engineers are in high demand due to the growth of electric vehicles, renewable energy storage, and portable electronics. They often require expertise in electrochemistry, materials science, and battery management systems, with job opportunities increasing in manufacturing and research sectors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Battery Scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Battery Scientist, you need a strong background in electrochemistry, materials science, and battery design, usually supported by an advanced degree in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering. Familiarity with tools such as electrochemical workstations, battery testing software, and data analysis platforms, along with experience in relevant certifications or safety protocols, is typically required. Exceptional problem-solving, written communication, and the ability to collaborate virtually are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are vital for advancing battery technology, ensuring high-quality research outcomes, and maintaining effective teamwork in a remote work environment.

What is the difference between Remote Battery Scientist vs Remote Battery Engineer?

AspectRemote Battery ScientistRemote Battery Engineer
Required CredentialsAdvanced degrees in chemistry, materials science, or related fieldsEngineering degrees in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, R&D departments, or collaborative research settingsDesign, development, and testing environments, often in product development teams
Industry UsagePrimarily in research-focused roles within battery manufacturing and tech companiesInvolved in product design, optimization, and manufacturing processes
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

While both roles focus on battery technology, Remote Battery Scientists primarily conduct research and develop new materials, whereas Remote Battery Engineers focus on designing and implementing battery systems for products. Both roles require technical expertise and often overlap in industry applications, but their core responsibilities differ in research versus engineering implementation.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Battery Scientists, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Battery Scientists often encounter challenges related to collaboration and access to laboratory equipment, since much of the research process is hands-on. To overcome these obstacles, it's essential to maintain clear and frequent communication with on-site teams, leverage digital collaboration tools, and establish strong protocols for data sharing and experiment documentation. Additionally, successful remote scientists are proactive in scheduling regular virtual meetings and staying updated on lab progress, ensuring their contributions remain integrated with the team's goals.

What are remote battery scientists?

Remote battery scientists are professionals who research, develop, and improve batteries and energy storage technologies while working from a location outside of a traditional laboratory or company site. They use digital tools to collaborate with teams, analyze data, design experiments, and communicate findings. Remote battery scientists often work with industries such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, and consumer electronics to create more efficient, durable, and sustainable battery solutions.

Job description

Who You Are

Are you a thoughtful, creative, and code-savvy simulation scientist or engineer? We are looking for someone who sits at the intersection of computer science and electrochemistry. You might be a software engineer with a passion for physics, or a theorist with a talent for building robust software infrastructure.

Sila Nanotechnologies is seeking a Battery Simulation & Computational Scientist (Intern) to:

  • Architect and implement physics-based battery models using PyBaMM.
  • Bridge the gap between theoretical equations and production-grade software code.
  • Leverage key insights from our battery models to accelerate learning cycles and reduce the cost of empirical R&D.
Responsibilities and Duties ย
  • Commit to a 6+ month internship (Remote or Onsite); this is not a position for students only available for summer months.
  • Analyze electrochemical data to build, parameterize, and apply new numerical models.
  • Fit electrochemical models to experimental data and evaluate model performance across a range of different electrochemical test techniques.
  • Support infrastructure development, helping to build the backend pipelines and tools that bring physics-based models to a wider audience.
  • Work closely with scientists and cross-functional teams to discover and communicate knowledge for the long-term development of our next-generation battery materials.
  • Invest in our values and champion them as we grow.
Knowledge and Skill Requirementsย
  • BSc (or preferably MSc/currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program) or equivalent research experience in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Strong experience using PyBaMM (Python Battery Mathematical Modeling) is required.
  • Mastery of Python, including standard scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas).
  • Experience interacting with databases using SQL or Snowflake.
  • Proficient with Git and collaboration platforms (GitHub or GitLab).
  • Ability to navigate and execute workflows in Linux or macOS terminal environments.
  • Knowledge of electrochemical theory and the application of the P2D (Pseudo-Two-Dimensional) or Doyle-Fuller-Newman models.
  • Public contributions to the PyBaMM repository or related sister projects on GitHub.
  • Proficiency in using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot) and knowledge of effective prompting techniques to accelerate development.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), or some exposure to full-stack development.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location
  • This role is open to Remote candidates.

The starting base pay for this role is between $25/hr and $39/hr at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila's competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, and equity. ย The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for overtime.
