Description

ActioNet has an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Engineer to join our interdisciplinary team supporting the next generation of cloud-native data analytics and production systems for one of the nation's leading public data sources. The Cloud Engineer will play a key role in transforming legacy on-premises systems into scalable, secure, and highly automated cloud-native architectures supporting data production pipelines, dissemination platforms, and web-based analytics applications.

Salary Range:  170,000-218,000

This role will focus on AWS cloud migration, containerized application platforms, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and DevOps/CI/CD automation. The Cloud Engineer will work closely with customers, architects, developers, and operations teams to understand existing application architectures, develop migration strategies, and design and implement scalable AWS solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct cloud readiness assessments and develop migration strategies and implementation plans for transitioning applications and infrastructure from on-premises environments to AWS.
  • Analyze existing application architectures and recommend cloud-native modernization and migration approaches that improve scalability, availability, performance, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Design, build, and deploy scalable AWS cloud solutions using services such as EKS, EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
  • Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or CloudFormation to automate provisioning, configuration, deployment, and orchestration of AWS infrastructure.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm Charts, supporting both stateful and stateless workloads.
  • Develop and manage Kubernetes-based application deployments, including Helm chart development, configuration, scaling, upgrades, and operational support.
  • Implement and support externalized platform services including Cassandra, OpenSearch, Hazelcast, Apache Kafka, and Amazon MSK (Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka).
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines to automate application builds, testing, infrastructure deployment, and production releases.
  • Develop and maintain DevOps automation and deployment scripts using Bash, Python, and Groovy.
  • Support large-scale cloud-native data processing and ETL workloads using AWS and associated cloud technologies.
  • Support database architecture, implementation, administration, capacity planning, and operations for highly scalable enterprise data platforms, including multi-terabyte environments.
  • Develop and implement migration solutions that maintain data integrity, high availability, and minimal downtime during transitions from on-premises environments to AWS.
  • Collaborate with customers and engineering teams to gather requirements, understand application dependencies, identify technical risks, and develop tailored cloud migration and modernization solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance on cloud architecture, containerization, Kubernetes, DevOps automation, IaC, and AWS best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize cloud infrastructure, containerized applications, CI/CD pipelines, and supporting platform services.
  • Review security scans, accessibility assessments, and performance testing results; develop mitigation and remediation plans and support implementation of corrective actions.
  • Stay current with emerging AWS, Kubernetes, DevOps, and cloud-native technologies and recommend improvements to existing solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to team members while ensuring adherence to established cloud and architectural standards.
Required Qualifications
