To thrive as a Remote Audio Visual Design Engineer, you need expertise in AV system design, signal flow, and integration, typically supported by a degree in engineering or a related field and experience with industry standards. Familiarity with design software (like AutoCAD, Visio), AV control systems (like Crestron, Extron), and certifications such as CTS or CTS-D are highly valued. Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills help you collaborate effectively with clients and remote teams. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable AV solutions that meet client requirements and industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Audio Visual Design Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Audio Visual Design Engineers often face challenges related to effective communication and collaboration, as much of the design and troubleshooting work must be coordinated virtually with team members and clients. Ensuring accurate site assessments and system integration can be difficult without physical presence, so leveraging detailed documentation, virtual walkthroughs, and clear communication tools is essential. Additionally, staying updated on rapidly evolving AV technologies and standards is crucial for delivering high-quality solutions. Building strong relationships with local onsite partners and maintaining a proactive approach to project management can help overcome these challenges.

Job description

We design, install, and maintain advanced electrical systems. Our expertise spans traditional electrical contracting, security solutions, audio-visual integration, wireless networking, and building management systems.

Senior Director, Construction Operations

Miller Electric Company

Position Overview

The Senior Director of Construction Operations will be a senior field and projectexecution leader and capable of leading diverse groups on major projects. This role provides executivelevel oversight of construction operations, schedule performance, manpower planning, quality control, and field staffing. The position represents Miller Electric Company with full authority in projectrelated meetings and serves as a major decisionmaker for construction execution strategies.

This position requires periodical travel to project sites across the United States. All other responsibilities will be performed remotely from a home office through virtual collaboration platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as an executivelevel advisor to project teams and leadership, providing industry bestpractice guidance and strategic insight while empowering teams to make informed decisions within established Miller Electric guardrails and checkpoints.
  • Ensure all data center projects are operating in alignment with Miller Electric Company processes, construction standards, Lean practices, and execution expectations—without removing ownership or accountability from the project teams.
  • Lead the adoption and consistent application of Lean Construction principles and Pull Planning methodologies across projects to improve reliability, constraint management, and predictable workflow.
  • Teach, train, and support project teams in Pull Planning, Lean execution, and reliable planning practices, strengthening field leadership capability and planning discipline across the organization.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to help define realistic yet aggressive schedule and productivity targets, ensuring project teams collectively own their plans and execution strategies.
  • Provide expert review, insight, and guidance on Primavera P6 schedules to improve logic, sequencing, and constructability, while reinforcing schedule ownership at the project level.
  • Participate in site walks during travel periods to validate progress, quality, safety performance, workforce effectiveness, and adherence to the project plan—providing actionable feedback and coaching rather than direct command.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to project superintendents, foremen, and field leadership, helping develop future leaders while reinforcing Miller Electric’s execution culture.
  • Represent Miller Electric in highlevel client and partner meetings as a trusted construction expert, providing technical insight and reinforcing confidence in the project team’s approach and capabilities.
  • Foster strong working relationships with general contractors, owners, engineering partners, and trade partners to support collaboration, issue resolution, and longterm project success.
  • Shape, refine, and socialize best practices, lessons learned, and standard work for data center construction, helping elevate consistency and performance across projects.
  • Assist project teams in identifying risks and constraints early, offering guidance and support to address issues proactively while maintaining project ownership within the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering “preferred”
  • Extensive experience in commercial construction, including largescale, complex projects in leadership roles
  • General Superintendent experience on a mega data center project
  • Deep knowledge in Lean Construction, Pull Planning, and collaborative scheduling
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead diverse teams and command authority in highstakes meetings
  • Ability to travel approximately ~12 days per month to project sites in the Southeast United States

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive executivelevel salary
  • Full travel reimbursement for all required site visits
  • Homeoffice flexibility for remote leadership and virtual meetings
  • Comprehensive benefits package consistent with Miller Electric’s senior leadership standards

As a leading provider of mechanical and electrical construction, facilities services, and energy infrastructure, we offer employees a competitive salary and benefits package and we are always looking for individuals with the talent and skills required to contribute to our continued growth and success.
