To thrive as a Remote Audio Editor, you need a solid understanding of audio production, editing techniques, and file management, often supported by relevant experience or an audio engineering certificate. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, or Audacity, as well as knowledge of plugins and file formats, is essential. Strong attention to detail, time management, and clear communication skills help editors meet deadlines and collaborate effectively with clients or teams remotely. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality audio content, efficient workflows, and client satisfaction in a remote work environment.

What Is a Remote Audio Editing Job?

A remote audio editing job is a work from home position in which you edit sound recordings or the audio portion of a video. Your duties depend on the type of audio with which you work. If you work in music, you ensure that the mix meets the needs of the producer or the artist. In radio or podcasting, audio editors may edit down the original recording for content purposes or edit out extraneous noises like pops. In film or videography, your responsibilities are to ensure that the visual and sound elements in a video match up.

What are some common challenges faced by remote audio editors, and how can they be addressed?

Remote audio editors often encounter challenges such as inconsistent file quality from various sources, communication delays with clients or team members, and managing large file transfers. To overcome these, it's important to establish clear file format and quality guidelines with clients, use collaborative tools for real-time feedback, and leverage secure cloud-based storage solutions for efficient file sharing. Proactively scheduling regular check-ins and maintaining organized project files can also help ensure smooth workflows and project delivery.

What is remote audio editing?

Remote audio editing involves editing, mixing, and enhancing audio files from a location outside of a traditional studio, often using digital tools and cloud-based platforms. Professionals in this field work with clients or teams online to improve sound quality, remove unwanted noise, and arrange audio tracks for podcasts, music, videos, or other media. This work can be done from home or any location with a reliable internet connection, making it a flexible career option for those with strong audio production skills.

Job description

We at Legacy Tree Genealogists love helping people all over the world (in over 50 countries!) discover their heritage. We get up in the morning and do things like tell a client her birth father's name, connect cousins in China, and share documentation that an ancestor used an alias and actually fathered two families - at the same time, in two different countries. For almost 20 years we've been changing people's lives forever by answering some of their deepest questions.

Legacy Tree is growing (we've been recognized as one of Utah's 100 fastest growing companies, six years in a row!), and we need additional support to keep providing the highest-rated genealogy research in the world to our clients.

This is where you come in!

About You:

You will be a great fit if:

  • You have 2 years sales experience, preferably in professional/consulting services
  • You have a deep familiarity with UK and/or Australian English, including local idioms, colloquialisms, and conversational speech patterns
  • You have experience working with clients in the UK and are open to accommodating their time zone
  • You have experience in telephone and video call sales (preferably not scripted)
  • You are looking for a part-time job and have a very flexible schedule
  • You love closing sales and are motivated by helping people
  • You have experience with CRM and pipeline management
  • You possess excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills
  • You have proven ability to meet KPIs such as sales goals
  • You are adept at building trust and credibility
  • You have a quiet place to work with a computer, great internet, and without distractions (a quiet background for phone calls is a must)
  • You have an interest and preferably some knowledge in genealogy
  • You will be responsible for responding to warm leads during your scheduled hours, while remaining flexible to pick up extra shifts as needed for workload surges or team absences. To maintain consistent lead contact, you are expected to check your voicemail and email every business day, as well as attend monthly department meetings and all-staff meetings.

What you'll be doing at Legacy Tree:

  • You'll be assisting potential clients to find the best solution for their research needs
  • You'll respond to warm sales leads and sell company services over the phone, video, and email
  • You will establish and maintain potential client relationships
  • You will contribute to our great sales team by meeting deadlines and achieving individual and team sales goals
  • You'll attend company meetings and fill in for team members as needed
  • You will do other things as needs arise

What Working at Legacy Tree Will be Like

We work hard to make working at Legacy Tree a great part of our team members' lives. Here's a little about what life here will be like:

Live Where You Want

Legacy Tree has always been a remote-based company, which allows us to hire the best talent and allows our team members to be where they love. As long as you have a quiet place to work, a flexible schedule, and fast internet in your location, that's all that matters. For this position, candidates must be located in the United States.

Work Flexibly

This role will be 10-15 hours per week to start, with regular check-ins throughout the week to catch client replies. You'll be working warm leads and paid an hourly rate plus commission.

These shifts are listed in Mountain Time (MT), and we require availability starting from 8:00 AM MT for shifts and daily check ins:

  • Tuesday: 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM
  • Wednesday: 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM
  • Friday: 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM
  • Saturday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Note: There is flexibility to work this shift on Monday instead!)

Work with Great People

We may be a remote company, but when you're solving some of the toughest genealogy mysteries in the world, there's a lot of cooperation that takes place. You'll get to know your team members well, and you'll be grateful for their support when you have questions. There are lots of others who you'll get to know, especially in our company chat Break Room and at our annual retreats. You'll find out first-hand why Legacy Tree has won the award Best and Brightest Companies to Work for in the Nation multiple times.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this position and consider joining our team! We hope to hear from you if you think we'll make a good fit.

Legacy Tree Genealogists is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We appreciate diversity, hire based solely on merit, and strive to create a working environment of inclusivity for all our team members.
