Remote Assistant Fire Department information

What is a remote assistant fire department?

Remote Assistant Fire Department jobs involve providing administrative, logistical, and communication support to fire departments from a remote location. These roles may include tasks such as scheduling, data entry, managing digital records, assisting with incident reporting, and coordinating communications during emergencies. Remote assistants help streamline operations, allowing firefighters and on-site staff to focus on emergency response and fieldwork. With advancements in technology, many fire departments now utilize remote assistants to enhance efficiency and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

How does a remote assistant fire department typically collaborate with on-site emergency personnel?

As a Remote Assistant in a Fire Department, you play a vital role in supporting on-site teams by managing communications, updating incident logs, and coordinating resources from a distance. You'll frequently interact with firefighters, dispatchers, and other emergency responders to relay critical information, track equipment, and ensure all data is accurately recorded in real-time. Effective collaboration relies heavily on clear communication skills and the ability to remain organized under pressure. This role allows you to contribute to emergency response operations without being physically present at the scene, making your behind-the-scenes support crucial to overall team effectiveness.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote assistant fire department, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Assistant in a Fire Department, you need strong organizational abilities, knowledge of emergency protocols, and experience with administrative tasks, typically supported by a background in office administration or emergency services support. Familiarity with dispatch software, scheduling tools, and communication systems like CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) is typically required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential soft skills in this role. These skills ensure efficient support for field personnel, accurate information flow, and effective coordination during emergency situations.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled BESS Fire Protection Engineer I to join an industry-leading team focused on clean energy technology solutions. This specialized role bridges the gap between complex regulatory codes and actionable product requirements. The successful candidate will drive informed business and technical decisions regarding safety across product lines, field deployments, and operational risk mitigation strategies.

Position Status: Full-Time, Salaried (Exempt), base and bonus

Work Location: 100% Fully Remote

Travel Requirements: Up to 40% travel required within the Americas region

Key Responsibilities

  • Code Translation: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary stakeholders to interpret complex local and international fire code regulations, converting them into precise, actionable technical product requirements or permitting solutions.
  • Compliance Matrixes: Design, implement, and maintain exhaustive code compliance matrixes to extract and track definitive regulatory criteria across distinct deployment areas.
  • Deficiency Resolution: Proactively identify regulatory compliance gaps or unique local jurisdictional (AHJ) variances, developing robust technical workarounds and engineering solutions.
  • Risk Mitigation & Testing: Support operational aspects of corporate fire safety initiatives, validating safety parameters by defining how systems are modeled, configured, and full-scale tested for deflagration and fire propagation potentials.
  • Reporting & Visibility: Synthesize complex test data and compliance profiles into clean, visual dashboards and executive reports (using Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to drive data-backed storytelling for regional leadership.
  • First Responder Education: Develop, update, and actively conduct specialized training frameworks to prepare internal teams, client representatives, and regional Fire Departments on proper emergency/first-responder protocols during thermal events.
  • Technical Issue Management: Directly participate in technical issue resolution pipelines, streamlining communications to uncover root causes and quickly finalize systemic engineering adjustments.
  • Industry Leadership: Keep a continuous pulse on shifting global codes, codes-committee rulings, and energy storage safety benchmarks to consistently advance the baseline safety of regional product deployments.

Requirements

Strict Candidate Screening Criteria

Mandatory BESS Experience: Candidates MUST possess between two (2) and five (5) years of dedicated, direct professional experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Fire Protection Engineering.

Strict Exclusion: This position is centered entirely on clean energy tech, deflagration, and thermal runaway mitigation. Candidates whose background is limited primarily or solely to traditional commercial building fire sprinkler/suppression systems design will not be entertained or considered.

Technical Standards & Core Competencies

Regulatory Familiarity: Demonstrated knowledge of, or direct testing/certification exposure to, UL 9540, UL 9540A, and UL 1973 protocols.

NFPA Competency: Practical structural application of NFPA Standards 855 (Energy Storage Systems), 68 (Deflagration Venting), 69 (Explosion Prevention), 70 (NEC), 72 (National Fire Alarm Code), 110, and 111.

Core Engineering Design: Proven experience drafting core fire compliance documentation, engineering briefs, and running Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) fire or plume modeling simulations.

Analytical Problem Solving: Highly adept at isolating anomalies within complex data models and translating dense engineering restrictions into direct operational workflows.

Continuous Learning: A proactive curiosity and proven ability to rapidly master emerging software platforms, technical modeling tools, and evolving BESS criteria.

Required Qualifications

Formal Education: Minimum of an Undergraduate or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical field with verified engineering experience.

Execution & Ownership: A relentless focus on execution characterized by deep personal ownership, independent execution capabilities, and a collaborative, forward-thinking mindset.

Communication Savvy: Outstanding public presentation and relationship-building skills, with a track record of driving cross-functional alignment and clearly conveying complex hazards to non-technical audiences.
