What are remote architectural jobs?

Remote architectural jobs are positions within the architecture field that allow professionals to work from locations outside a traditional office, often from home or other remote settings. These roles can include tasks such as designing building plans, creating 3D models, drafting construction documents, and consulting with clients or teams, all facilitated by digital tools and communication platforms. Many architectural firms are increasingly offering remote opportunities due to advances in technology and the growing demand for flexible work arrangements. Remote architects must still collaborate closely with team members, clients, and engineers, often using software like AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM platforms. While site visits may occasionally be required, most of the design and planning work can be completed remotely.

How does working as a remote architectural professional impact collaboration with clients and project teams?

As a remote architectural professional, effective communication and collaboration are essential to ensure project success. You'll typically use digital tools like BIM software, video conferencing, and shared online workspaces to coordinate with clients, engineers, and fellow architects. While you may miss some face-to-face interactions, regular virtual meetings and clear documentation help bridge the gap and maintain strong teamwork. Being proactive in providing updates and seeking feedback is key to overcoming time zone differences and ensuring everyone remains aligned on project goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Architect, you need a solid background in architectural design, building codes, and project management, usually supported by a professional degree and licensure. Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms, and collaboration tools like Slack or Zoom is essential. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help you collaborate effectively with distributed teams and clients. These abilities are crucial for delivering high-quality designs efficiently while navigating the challenges of remote work.

What is the difference between Remote Architectural vs Remote Civil Engineer?

Industry UsageBuilding design, urban planningInfrastructure, transportation, structural projects
Common Search IntentRemote architectural design jobsRemote civil engineering projects

Remote Architectural and Remote Civil Engineer roles share similarities in requiring specialized licenses and working within the construction and design industry. However, they differ in focus: architects primarily handle building design and client interactions, while civil engineers focus on infrastructure and structural projects. Both roles can be performed remotely, but their core responsibilities and credentials vary accordingly.

Data Architect (S/4HANA)

Sr. Manager, Enterprise Architecture & Strategy - Individual Contributor (P5)

Raytheon Digital Technology - Data Analytics & AI

Remote position - Domestic US locations only

We are embarking on a multi‑year transformation from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA. As a Data Architect, you will define and evolve the enterprise data architecture that supports this journey, ensuring we can blend and report across ECC and S/4HANA in parallel until full migration is complete. You’ll design the canonical data model, integration patterns, and bridge reporting strategy that unify data from migrated and non‑migrated business areas—delivering trustworthy, timely insights to leaders and frontline teams.

This senior individual contributor partners closely with product managers, enterprise architects, business stakeholders, and delivery teams to set direction, document standards, and guide solution teams across the full lifecycle—from planning and design through deployment and operations.

You will use formal architecture and strategy methods and practices, such as TOGAF, to depict business strategy, problems, needs and structure before solution architecture and design occurs. You will also have responsibility for continuously developing reference architectures, data architectures, personas, use cases, landscape models, repository and knowledgebases to accelerate future architecture engagements.

What You Will Do

  • Own the enterprise data architecture for the ECC → S/4HANA transition, defining principles, reference architectures, and guardrails for data domains (Finance, Supply Chain, Order‑to‑Cash, Procure‑to‑Pay, etc.).
  • Design the bridge reporting strategy that harmonizes ECC and S/4HANA datasets to produce consistent KPI definitions and cross‑system analytics (e.g., consolidated financials, inventory, order fulfillment), including semantic layers and data virtualization/replication as appropriate.
  • Model canonical and system‑specific data (conceptual, logical, physical) and establish golden sources, conformed dimensions, data standards, and naming/versioning conventions.
  • Define integration patterns (e.g., SLT/ODP/CDC, APIs, files, events) between SAP and the analytical stack, balancing latency, cost, reliability, and data quality.
  • Enable analytics & planning in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)—curate models, measures, and calculations; design security and data‑access patterns; guide dashboard/story design standards.
  • Oversee ETL/ELT pipelines using SAP BusinessObjects Data Services (BODS) and modern orchestration patterns; define error handling, lineage, and observability.
  • Create and maintain architecture artifacts (capability maps, value streams, domain models, roadmaps, standards) aligned to TOGAF ADM phases A–D and communicate them to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Coach delivery teams and provide architectural reviews to ensure solutions conform to strategy while meeting near‑term milestones during the phased migration.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years' experience
  • Experience with the SAP ECC data model (core modules and common customizations/extensions).
  • Experience with the SAP S/4HANA data model, including CDS views, embedded analytics concepts, and differences from ECC.
  • Experience in data architecture/engineering with end‑to‑end ownership of enterprise data platforms.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Highly Prefer

  • Experience with Snowflake (data modeling for analytics, performance tuning, governance, cost optimization).
  • Experience with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) (modeling, security, stories, planning) and SAP BusinessObjects Data Services (BODS) for ETL/ELT.
  • Experience with SAP Business Data Cloud / SAP Datasphere for semantic modeling, data federation/replication, and governance.
  • Experience with designing bridge/transition architectures that support multi‑system reporting during large transformations.

Qualifications we prefer:

  • TOGAF‑certified; practiced in using the TOGAF framework to build and communicate architecture to business and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with formal architecture modeling (UML, BPMN, SysML, ArchiMate).
  • Executive presence and strong communication skills; comfortable leading change across large initiatives and organizations.
  • Ability to dive deep into how the business creates value and translate that into data architectures and roadmaps.
  • Experience across the full IT lifecycle (planning, design, deployment, operations) and with cross‑functional delivery teams.
  • Strong grounding in data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration techniques.
  • Prior experience as a BI analyst, data scientist, software developer, or system administrator.
  • Demonstrated ability to use abstraction and simplification to communicate complex systems to different audiences.
  • Strong influencing and relationship skills to develop and maintain key partnerships.
  • Location proximity to major Raytheon site preferred e.g. Tucson  AZ, Andover MA, or McKinney / Richardson TX

  • Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At RTX we value: Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation.
  • Relocation Eligibility - This role is not relocation support eligible as it remote within the US Domestic 50 states (Excluding US Territories).
