Job description

We are seeking a driven and relationship-focused Outside Sales Representative to join our Guardian Firestop Solutions team. This role is responsible for driving business growth by developing new customer relationships, expanding existing accounts, and identifying commercial firestop and fireproofing opportunities. As a trusted advisor to general contractors, construction managers, architects, and facility owners, the Outside Sales Representative will leverage technical expertise to understand project requirements, develop accurate estimates, and deliver tailored solutions that meet customer needs.
In addition to business development, this position plays a key role in the preconstruction process by reviewing project plans and specifications, preparing competitive proposals, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure successful project execution. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated sales professional with a strong commercial construction background, excellent relationship-building skills, and the ability to translate technical knowledge into long-term customer partnerships.
This role offers remote opportunities within Missouri, with preference given to candidates located near Fayetteville, AR, St. Louis, MO, and Kansas City, MO, or surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities
Sales amp; Business Development
  • Develop and execute a strategic territory sales plan to drive revenue growth and expand Guardian Firestop Solutions' market presence.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities with general contractors, construction managers, owners, architects, engineers, and facility managers.
  • Build and maintain long-term customer relationships through regular jobsite visits, client meetings, networking, and exceptional customer service.
  • Prepare and deliver professional presentations, proposals, and technical solutions tailored to customer needs.
  • Generate and maintain a healthy sales pipeline through prospecting, referrals, industry events, and relationship development.
  • Negotiate pricing, scope, and contract terms while maintaining company profitability objectives.
  • Collaborate with operations and leadership to develop winning strategies for competitive bid opportunities.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, market conditions, competitors, and emerging firestop technologies to identify new opportunities for growth.
Estimating amp; Preconstruction
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand project scope and firestop requirements.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs using architectural drawings and digital takeoff software.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for firestopping and fireproofing projects.
  • Compose, submit, and track Requests for Information (RFIs) as needed to clarify project scope.
  • Prepare proposals, bid documents, and value-engineering recommendations that align with customer objectives.
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings and assist customers with technical product selection and application recommendations.
Customer Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the preconstruction and sales process, ensuring a responsive and professional customer experience.
  • Develop trusted advisor relationships by providing technical expertise and practical solutions for firestop applications and code compliance.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate project conditions, identify opportunities, and support customers throughout the bidding process.
  • Maintain consistent communication with customers regarding bid status, project updates, and future opportunities.
  • Foster long-term partnerships that generate repeat business and referrals.
Operational amp; Systems Support
  • Ensure complete and accurate project handoffs by providing estimates, drawings, specifications, scope details, and customer expectations to the Operations Team.
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, and project information within company systems.
  • Collaborate with project management and field operations to ensure project feasibility, successful execution, and customer satisfaction.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating processes, sales strategies, and customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of business objectives.
Qualifications
Required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial construction, specialty contracting, building materials, firestop, fireproofing, insulation, or a closely related industry.
  • Proven experience in outside sales, business development, estimating, project management, or customer relationship management within the commercial construction industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new business, build lasting customer relationships, and manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, project specifications, and contract documents.
  • Ability to prepare accurate project estimates and develop competitive proposals.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction processes, project lifecycles, and bidding procedures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) and estimating or digital takeoff software.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
  • Willingness to travel and attend customer meetings, project sites, and industry events as needed.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record (per company insurance requirements).
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Experience selling firestop, fireproofing, insulation, or other passive fire protection systems.
  • Existing relationships with general contractors, construction managers, architects, healthcare systems, educational institutions, or facility owners.
  • Experience estimating commercial construction projects, including quantity takeoffs and proposal development.
  • Working knowledge of IBC, UL firestop systems, ASTM standards, and NFPA fire protection requirements.
  • Experience with healthcare, higher education, industrial, manufacturing, mission-critical, or other complex commercial construction projects.
  • Previous experience as an Estimator, Project Manager, Superintendent, or Operations Manager within commercial construction.
  • Manufacturer training or certifications from Hilti, STI, 3M, Tremco, or other passive fire protection manufacturers.
  • Experience using Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, AutoCAD, or similar estimating and takeoff software.
