Job description

Welcome to Terra One, an exciting-fast growing company focused on developing and operating large-scale battery storage systems in Germany. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, our company is driving forward the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in order to make a significant contribution to achieving climate neutrality. Our Mission: At Terra One, we accelerate the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure by developing and implementing innovative solutions.

Our initial focus is on battery storage, a crucial component for establishing a flexible and environmentally friendly power grid. By providing energy when it is most needed, we help improve the reliability and efficiency of the power grid while simultaneously reducing CO2 emissions. Equally important to our mission is our AI-based energy trading in the European market, which works hand in hand with our battery storage solutions.

Our Team: The energy trading unit is responsible for optimizing assets across all markets, balancing renewables, and proprietary trading. We trade short term power algorithmically in an expanding geographical scope and have a highly technical team of veteran software engineers, leading AI experts and power trading professionals. In order to reach our goals and increase our impact we are looking for talented people to join our team who want to contribute their knowledge and passion to the energy transition.

We are looking to strengthen our team with two additional Quant Trader (m/f/d) roles which shall jointly cover the responsibilities mentioned below, so it is fine if you feel you only qualify for a part of that. If you're ready to join our team and make an impact in the energy transition, we would be happy to receive your application. We look forward to hearing from you and shaping the future of energy together.

Your Tasks: Take P&L responsibility for trading activities. Develop and implement algorithmic trading strategies across various time horizons — from mid-term quantitative models to high-frequency trading. Work closely with AI experts to improve, expand, and operationalize deep learning models.

Build and refine analytical frameworks for power price forecasting and asset optimization. Drive the continuous enhancement of our battery optimization framework. Collaborate with software and data engineers, occasionally taking product ownership roles for trading-related tools and systems.

Participate in trading operations, including day-shift trading and an on-call incident response rotation to ensure 24/7 system reliability. Engage in ongoing quantitative analysis to identify new market opportunities and performance improvements. What we expect from you: You're motivated by innovation and want to make a difference in the energy transition.

Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in collaborative, cross-functional teams. High intellectual curiosity, resilience, and a commercial mindset. A balance of rigor and pragmatism — you know when to experiment and when to deliver.

Ability to work autonomously in a dynamic, high-paced environment. Strong sense of integrity, accountability, and sound judgment. Fluency in English; German is a plus.

Qualifications: University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Economics. Strong Python skills, with experience using relevant data science libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, TensorFlow, PyTorch); experience with R or TypeScript is a plus. 3+ years of experience in short-term power markets (Germany preferred; other markets are a strong plus).

Proven algorithmic trading experience — from strategy design to deployment. Demonstrated analytic experience within the energy or trading domain, using data-driven methods for decision-making. Hands-on experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, or deep learning approaches.

Knowledge of asset optimization, including ancillary services. Familiarity with market microstructures and high-frequency trading environments is a plus. Comfortable participating in an on-call rotation for trading infrastructure incident response.

Responsibility and the opportunity to grow in a rapidly expanding company Modern office with a rooftop terrace and in-house chef Snacks & drinks for free A young, international, and ambitious team Opportunity to work remotely Diversity & Inclusion Statement: At Terra One, we value diversity and firmly believe that different perspectives drive innovation. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where every individual, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, belief, age, sexual identity and orientation, or ability, can thrive. We are committed to an open corporate culture characterized by respect and mutual appreciation.

Our goal is to create a work environment that is accessible and inclusive for everyone. We look forward to meeting you and working together to create a sustainable future.
