What is a remote aircraft wiring technician?

A Remote Aircraft Wiring technician is a professional who installs, inspects, repairs, and maintains the electrical wiring systems in aircraft, often working remotely or at off-site locations. Their responsibilities include reading wiring diagrams, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with aviation safety standards. This role may involve working with various types of aircraft, collaborating with engineering teams, and documenting work performed. Remote technicians often use specialized tools and communication methods to coordinate with on-site staff and complete tasks efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote aircraft wiring technician?

To thrive as a Remote Aircraft Wiring Technician, you need a solid understanding of electrical systems, blueprint reading, and aviation regulations, often supported by an associate degree or relevant certification (such as FAA Airframe & Powerplant). Familiarity with specialized tools like wire strippers, multimeters, and computerized maintenance management systems is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for ensuring precision and collaboration, especially in remote settings. These competencies are vital for maintaining aircraft safety, meeting regulatory standards, and ensuring the reliability of electronic systems.

What are some common challenges faced when working in remote aircraft wiring roles, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote aircraft wiring professionals often face challenges such as troubleshooting complex electrical systems without immediate on-site support and adapting to various aircraft models. Effective communication with engineering teams and thorough documentation are crucial for resolving issues efficiently. Additionally, staying updated on the latest wiring standards and using remote diagnostic tools can help maintain high-quality work and safety. Proactively seeking clarification and collaborating with remote colleagues also contributes to successful project outcomes.

Job description

Electrical Designer – Aerospace (Remote Contract)

Join an innovative aerospace engineering team supporting aircraft modernization and next-generation electrical system integration. This is a long-term remote contract (12+ months) where you'll play a key role designing complex aircraft electrical systems for high-impact engineering programs.

In this role, you'll develop wire harnesses, electrical schematics, and system layouts using Capital Logic, while creating wiring diagrams, connector tables, cable assemblies, and engineering documentation required for FAA certification. You'll collaborate closely with mechanical, avionics, and manufacturing teams to integrate electrical systems into aircraft, troubleshoot design challenges, and support testing and certification efforts. Your work will directly contribute to the reliability, safety, and performance of advanced aerospace platforms.

What We're Looking For:

  • 3+ years of electrical design experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or heavy equipment industries

  • Strong proficiency with Capital Logic for schematic capture and wire harness design (required)

  • Experience designing and documenting wire harnesses, electrical interconnects, and system schematics

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and engineering specifications

  • Knowledge of FAA, MIL-STD, DO-160, or similar industry standards

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical, Zuken, or similar electrical CAD tools

  • Previous aircraft retrofit, modification, or modernization experience

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Avionics, or a related field

Note: Candidates with extensive Capital Logic experience in the automotive industry (including OEM programs such as Daimler) are encouraged to apply, even without prior aerospace experience.
