What is remote agriculture software?

Remote agriculture software refers to digital tools and platforms that allow farmers and agricultural professionals to monitor, manage, and optimize farming operations from a distance. These tools often use data from sensors, drones, and satellite imagery to provide real-time insights into crop health, soil conditions, irrigation, and equipment performance. By enabling remote access and control, this software helps increase efficiency, reduce costs, and support sustainable farming practices. It is especially valuable for managing large or multiple farm locations without the need for constant on-site presence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote agriculture software specialist?

To thrive as a Remote Agriculture Software Specialist, you need a solid understanding of agricultural practices combined with expertise in software development or IT, often supported by a degree in computer science, agronomy, or a related field. Familiarity with agricultural management platforms, GIS systems, and data analytics tools, as well as certifications in relevant software or cloud solutions, are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication help you collaborate with farmers and agribusiness teams. These skills ensure the successful implementation and support of technology solutions that improve agricultural productivity and efficiency from a distance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote agriculture software roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote agriculture software roles often face challenges such as bridging the gap between technology and on-the-ground agricultural needs, ensuring reliable connectivity in rural areas, and effectively communicating with diverse stakeholders including farmers, agronomists, and technicians. Addressing these issues typically involves developing user-friendly interfaces, prioritizing offline functionality, and maintaining close collaboration with end users to gather feedback and refine solutions. Building strong communication channels and participating in cross-functional teamwork are essential for delivering software that meets real-world agricultural requirements.

Job description

About Fireclay Partners
Fireclay Partners is a veteran owned middle market M&A and buy side advisory firm based in Kansas City. We serve private equity sponsors and family owned businesses on platform sourcing, bolt on acquisitions, and select sell side mandates. Our model pairs investment banking execution with senior operating expertise, and we bring in industry advisors with deep domain experience to support deal sourcing, due diligence, and sponsor engagement.
The Role
We are building out a bench of senior operators with platform experience across ag inputs, ag services, or agribusiness. This is a per engagement consulting role, not full time employment. You will partner with the Fireclay team on specific deals where your domain expertise creates value, with engagements typically running three to twelve months on a deal specific basis.
We are actively building bench depth across the following subsectors within this role:
• Ag inputs (seed, crop protection, nutrients, specialty chemicals for ag)
• Ag equipment, parts, and dealer networks
• Ag services (agronomy, custom application, harvesting, hauling)
• AgTech (precision ag, software, decision support)
• Food and agribusiness supply chain (grain, livestock, processing)
What You Will Do
• Provide market intelligence on bolt on targets, competitive landscape, and valuation context within your subsector
• Make introductions to founders, family owners, and senior executives in your existing network
• Review confidential information memoranda and management presentations for sector specific operating fit and risk
• Participate in PE sponsor pitches when your subsector and operating background are relevant
• Provide operational due diligence input on target companies
• Advise the Fireclay team on positioning and messaging for sponsor outreach and sourcing campaigns
What We Are Looking For
• Senior operator (VP, President, GM, COO, CEO) at an ag inputs manufacturer, regional dealer network, ag services platform, agribusiness, or PE backed ag platform
• Fifteen years or more in ag operations with direct grower or producer facing experience
• Familiarity with seasonality, working capital dynamics, and cooperative versus independent channel structures
• Existing network of relationships with founders, family owners, senior executives, and PE professionals across your subsector
• Comfort representing Fireclay professionally to PE sponsors and target company management
• Discretion when handling non public information and competitive intelligence
• Willingness to work on a flexible per engagement basis without fixed hours or commitments
Compensation
• 1099 independent contractor structure
• Per deal success fees on closed engagements where you contribute meaningfully
• Optional retainer for active sourcing assignments
• Equity participation available on select strategic engagements
• No fixed hours or minimum time commitment
Location
Remote. US or Canada based. Travel is minimal and deal specific.
How to Apply
• Resume or LinkedIn URL
• Brief statement (one or two paragraphs) describing your subsector focus and the two or three operating engagements or transactions you would highlight as most relevant
• Two or three reference contacts (PE sponsors, founders, or senior executives we can call)
Fireclay Partners is a veteran owned and operated firm and is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a team that reflects a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
