Remote Aerospace Software Engineer information

What is a remote aerospace software engineer?

A Remote Aerospace Software Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, tests, and maintains software used in aerospace systems, such as aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, and related technologies, while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. These engineers collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure software meets the rigorous safety and performance standards required in the aerospace industry. They often use specialized programming languages and tools to create embedded systems, simulation software, or control systems, contributing to the advancement of aerospace technology from anywhere in the world.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote aerospace software engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Aerospace Software Engineer, you need a strong background in computer science, aerospace engineering principles, and proficiency in programming languages like C++, Python, or Ada, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with aerospace industry standards, real-time operating systems, and tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and version control systems is essential, and certifications like DO-178C may be required. Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, self-motivation, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating across distributed teams. These skills and qualities ensure the development of reliable, safe, and compliant aerospace software systems while maintaining productivity in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote aerospace software engineers and how can they be addressed?

Remote aerospace software engineers often encounter challenges related to communication and collaboration, given the highly technical and regulated nature of aerospace projects. Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams across different time zones can require extra effort in scheduling meetings and ensuring everyone stays aligned on project milestones. To overcome these challenges, it's important to establish clear communication channels, leverage collaborative development tools, and maintain thorough documentation. Regular virtual check-ins and proactive status updates also help ensure smooth progress, compliance, and integration with hardware teams.

What is the difference between Remote Aerospace Software Engineer vs Remote Aerospace Systems Engineer?

AspectRemote Aerospace Software EngineerRemote Aerospace Systems Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; experience in aerospace software developmentBachelor's in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related; knowledge of aerospace systems and integration
Work EnvironmentPrimarily software development, coding, testing in remote settingsSystems integration, requirements analysis, and coordination across hardware and software components remotely
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by aerospace companies developing flight software, satellite systems, UAVsUsed in aerospace firms managing complex systems, spacecraft, and satellite projects

The main difference is that Remote Aerospace Software Engineers focus on developing and testing aerospace software remotely, while Remote Aerospace Systems Engineers handle system integration and requirements across hardware and software components. Both roles require aerospace knowledge but emphasize different technical skills and responsibilities.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Fullstack Software Engineer - Core based in Netherlands.

This role offers the opportunity to build core capabilities within a sophisticated enterprise AI and data platform.
You will contribute to features spanning data preparation, machine learning, visualization, MLOps, platform engineering, and AI governance.
The position combines backend engineering with exceptional frontend experiences, giving you the chance to work across the full product stack.
You will tackle complex technical challenges involving large-scale data processing, AI-powered workflows, cloud integrations, and high-performance interfaces.
Depending on your interests, you may work with technologies including Java, Python, Angular, React, Kubernetes, Spark, and major cloud platforms.
You will collaborate with engineers, researchers, and cross-functional teams to turn innovative ideas into reliable product capabilities.
This is a strong opportunity for a stack-agnostic software engineer who enjoys building real products and solving challenging problems at scale.

Accountabilities:
  • Build and enhance core product features across areas such as data preparation, AI and machine learning, data consumption, visualization, MLOps, platform engineering, and AI governance.
  • Develop tools for data integration, transformation, cataloging, visualization, and large-scale data workflows.
  • Contribute to AI and machine learning capabilities, including LLM APIs, machine learning model integrations, statistical features, and time-series forecasting.
  • Create intuitive experiences that make data accessible and actionable, including collaborative workspaces, dashboards, datasets, and AI-powered interfaces.
  • Develop high-performance visualization capabilities, including new chart types, dashboards, and flexible data exploration experiences.
  • Build MLOps capabilities that automate model retraining, monitoring, deployment, and collaboration between machine learning stakeholders.
  • Improve platform scalability, performance, security, and cloud integrations while expanding support for databases and data processing engines.
  • Develop AI governance capabilities that simplify compliance, policy enforcement, and integration across different systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering, research, and cross-functional teams to design, implement, test, and continuously improve production-quality software.
  • Contribute to technical decisions across backend and frontend systems while maintaining a strong focus on performance, usability, reliability, and product quality.

Requirements:

  • Significant professional experience in software engineering, with a track record of building and delivering real-world products.
  • Strong fullstack engineering capabilities and a genuine interest in combining high-performing backend systems with exceptional frontend user experiences.
  • A stack-agnostic mindset and ability to learn and work effectively with different technologies and frameworks.
  • Experience with technologies relevant to modern software platforms, such as Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, React, Node.js, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with cloud, distributed systems, data platforms, machine learning, visualization, or DevOps technologies is valuable depending on the area of interest.
  • Ability to work on complex technical problems involving scalability, performance, data, AI, cloud infrastructure, or user-facing product experiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, combined with a practical approach to building maintainable and reliable software.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, researchers, and other stakeholders in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Passion for engineering excellence, product quality, continuous learning, and challenging technical problems.
  • Candidates at junior, mid-level, and senior levels may be considered, with responsibilities aligned to experience and expertise.

Benefits:

  • Opportunity to work on a sophisticated enterprise AI and data platform with significant real-world impact.
  • Exposure to a broad and evolving technology stack across AI, machine learning, data engineering, cloud infrastructure, visualization, and software development.
  • Opportunity to contribute to innovative features involving LLMs, machine learning, MLOps, AI governance, and large-scale data processing.
  • Collaborative environment bringing together engineering and research expertise.
  • Opportunity to work on technically challenging problems at scale.
  • Remote working opportunity within the United Kingdom.
  • Strong focus on innovation, engineering excellence, collaboration, diversity, and professional growth.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a product used by leading organisations to operationalize AI and data capabilities.
