Union Family Counseling Center is seeking a full-time Licensed Mental Health Counselor who is passionate about improving the mental health and emotional well-being of clients. This role is an integral part of our telehealth services, allowing you to make a real difference in the lives of individuals while working remotely. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, you will conduct evaluations, create personalized treatment plans, and facilitate therapy sessions, both individually and in groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough mental health evaluations through initial consultations, documenting findings accurately from the start of treatment to the conclusion.
  • Assess clients’ mental, behavioral, and emotional health, identifying specific challenges and strengths.
  • Develop comprehensive and individualized intervention plans tailored for individuals, couples, families, and groups, based on evidence-based practices.
  • Facilitate engaging individual and group therapy sessions, employing therapeutic techniques and tools suitable for diverse clientele.
  • Monitor client progress, adjusting treatment plans based on feedback and evolving needs, ensuring effective recovery strategies are in place.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals including psychologists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and social workers to create cohesive intervention plans.
  • Maintain effective communication with external professionals, such as attending physicians and specialists, particularly for clients requiring additional medical support.
  • Educate and support family members and caregivers to assist in managing their loved ones' mental health challenges.
  • Remain current with the latest developments in mental health treatments and methodologies to enhance therapeutic practices.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your role primarily focuses on supporting a diverse client population suffering from various mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and relational issues. You will work with individuals of all ages, providing a safe space for open dialogue and healing. In particular, your role will reach out to underserved communities, enhancing accessibility to mental health care through our telehealth platform.

Qualifications
  • A Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current, valid licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Illinois.
  • Successful completion and passing of the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and/or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).
  • Strong foundation of clinical and counseling experience, demonstrating effective therapy practices.
Preferred Experience
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems such as AVATAR, enhancing efficiency and documentation in client care.
  • Experience working with clients dealing with complex physical and emotional health conditions, in addition to addiction disorders.
  • Familiarity with best practices as recommended by the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), ensuring high standards of therapeutic care.
  • In-depth knowledge of mental health medications prescribed by medical specialists and their effects on clients.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills alongside exceptional interpersonal abilities, allowing for rapport-building and empathetic engagement with clients.
