About The Role:

The Director of Technical Accounting & External Financial Reporting is a key finance leader responsible for overseeing complex technical accounting matters and ensuring high-quality, compliant external financial reporting. This role serves as the Company's subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, partnering cross-functionally to support strategic initiatives and maintain strong financial governance.

The ideal candidate is a Certified Public Accountant with deep experience in U.S. public company reporting, technical accounting research, and SEC filings (including Forms 10-K and 10-Q). This individual will work closely with Controllership, Legal, FP&A, external auditors, and executive leadership.

This position is open to remote employees within the U.S. or onsite hybrid three days a week at our corporate office in Rock Hill, SC

 What We're Looking For: 

Technical Accounting

  • Lead research and interpretation of complex accounting issues under U.S. GAAP, including preparation of well-documented technical accounting memos and position papers
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to management on accounting implications of business transactions, including:
    • Goodwill and long-lived asset impairment testing
    • Business combinations and divestitures
    • Stock-based compensation
    • Leasing, investments, and consolidation matters
  • Monitor and assess the impact of new accounting and regulatory standards (FASB/SEC) and lead company-wide implementation efforts
  • Maintain and enhance company accounting policies to ensure consistency and compliance

External Financial Reporting (SEC)

  • Lead preparation and review of SEC filings, including:
    • Forms 10-K and 10-Q (financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, risk factors)
    • Earnings releases and supporting materials
  • Ensure compliance with SEC regulations (Regulation S-X, S-K, and interpretive guidance)
  • Oversee disclosure controls and assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual disclosure checklists
  • Coordinate with Legal and Investor Relations to ensure accurate, transparent, and consistent disclosures

Audit & Compliance

  • Partner with external auditors on quarterly reviews and annual audits, resolving technical positions and ensuring timely completion
  • Support SOX compliance efforts related to financial reporting and disclosure controls
  • Prepare materials for Disclosure Committee and Audit Committee presentations

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate with Controllership, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, HR and business leaders on transactions and reporting matters
  • Support accounting for strategic initiatives, including M&A, restructuring, and capital markets transactions
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within the reporting function

Team Leadership & Development

  • Mentor and develop accounting and reporting team members
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence
What You'll Bring: 
  • 8-12 years of progressive accounting experience, including in Big 4 public accounting
  • Strong experience serving U.S. public company clients and supporting SEC reporting
  • Prior experience in a technical accounting, SEC reporting, or controllership leadership role

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a global or multinational organization
  • Industry experience in manufacturing, technology, or similar sectors

Education / Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA required
  • Master's degree (Accounting, Finance, or Business) preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex accounting issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to present to senior leadership
