Job description

Data Scientist

The Opportunity:
As a data scientist at Booz Allen, you'll unlock insights from complex data to solve mission-critical challenges. In an increasingly connected world, large volumes of structured and unstructured data create opportunities to generate actionable intelligence and drive informed decision-making. On our team, you'll apply your technical expertise and systems thinking to help design analytic capabilities that support national security and mission partner objectives.
This role requires individuals who are comfortable operating in early-stage or evolving data environments, where datasets, pipelines, and analytic frameworks may need to be built simultaneously. You'll work alongside data engineers, system architects, and mission stakeholders to shape the tools, data pipelines, and analytic environments required to enable scalable data science capabilities.
You'll operate in a "No-Fail" mission environment, demonstrating extreme ownership and full accountability for outcomes. You'll proactively identify gaps in data availability, infrastructure, or analytic tooling and drive solutions without reliance on external direction. You'll anticipate risks, remove obstacles, and act decisively to close gaps before they impact mission delivery. Work closely with clients and mission partners to translate operational questions into analytic approaches, and apply the right combination of data engineering, analytics, and modeling techniques to generate meaningful insights that improve mission effectiveness.
Ultimately, you'll help deliver mission outcomes by enabling teams to better understand their data, the insights it reveals, and how it can be used to support decision-making.
Work with us as we use data science for good.

Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:

  • 3+ years of experience with data exploration, data analysis, data mining, data visualization, or data science
  • 3+ years of experience programming in statistical or general-purpose languages such as Python, R, or languages used for data analysis
  • Experience analyzing structured and unstructured data sources, developing analytical approaches to extract meaningful insights, and developing predictive data models, quantitative analyses, or decision-support tools
  • Experience working with or designing data lakes, data warehouses, and ETL/ELT pipelines supporting analytics and machine learning workflows
  • Experience preparing and transforming data through data ingestion, cleansing, and pipeline development to support scalable analytics
  • Experience collaborating with data engineers, system architects, and mission stakeholders to define analytic requirements and develop solutions
  • Ability to display ownership mentality, and take responsibility for complex technical challenges from problem definition through delivery
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous or evolving data environments where data, pipelines, and analytic frameworks must be developed simultaneously
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience developing algorithms using Python, R, SQL, or NoSQL technologies
  • Experience with distributed data and computing tools such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, EMR, or similar platforms
  • Experience developing machine learning or natural language processing (NLP) solutions
  • Experience working with cloud-based analytics environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Experience building data architecture or analytics platforms that support scalable data science
  • Experience with data visualization tools or packages such as Plotly, Seaborn, ggplot2, or Tableau
  • TS/SCI clearance

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
