A Day in the Life of the Field Deployment Engineer:

The Field Deployment Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and administration of internet access infrastructure across company and customer environments. The position supports a wide range of network technologies, including routers, switches, servers, fiber and wireless equipment, while also managing site surveys, vendor coordination, and project scheduling with internal teams, customers, and property stakeholders. Responsibilities include inspecting build quality, completing installations, maintaining documentation, and resolving technical issues to ensure reliable network performance. The role also participates in ongoing operational support, including on-call rotation, and contributes to process improvements and special projects that drive efficiency and network optimization.

  • Conduct site surveys to assess build pathways and develop effective solutions for wireless deployments.

  • Support vendor management efforts by coordinating with engineering and construction partners to obtain bid documentation, with guidance from leadership or senior engineers.

  • Coordinate project schedules and ensure clear communication across property management, customers, internal teams, and external vendors.

  • Perform building inspections and preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) on both new and existing sites, identifying and addressing potential issues.

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot a variety of network equipment, including millimeter wave and microwave systems, routers, switches, and indoor/outdoor Wi-Fi solutions.

  • Execute cable installation activities, including placement, terminations, and splicing for both fiber optic and copper infrastructure.

  • Apply basic knowledge of DC/AC power systems, following established best practices for safe and effective installation.

  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation by creating detailed build records and uploading them to internal systems.

  • Perform basic fiber splicing and support network infrastructure installations.

  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support network operations and issue resolution.

  • Contribute to additional assignments and special projects focused on improving operational efficiency and overall network performance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with LAN and WAN Technology.

  • 1 - 2+ years of Project Management Experience.

  • 1 year of experience with microwave and millimeter wave components.

  • Working knowledge of network protocols, architectures, and core equipment including routers, switches, and firewalls.

  • Understanding of system design concepts such as load balancing and redundancy, with the ability to support network setup and configuration.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to various audiences.

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with strong time management skills.

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, dynamic environments with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and ability to follow direction and complete tasks.

  • Physical capability to perform fieldwork, including lifting equipment, handling wiring, and working in tight spaces.

  • Willingness to travel locally, participate in hands-on work, and operate a company vehicle with a valid driver’s license.

Education:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Base Compensation: The base compensation range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr, plus opportunities for benefits. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities.
