Job description

Located in the bustling Downtown Arts District, Bakersfield’s Historic Padre Hotel is proudly the only Four Diamond hotel in Kern County. Our property offers distinct entertainment venues including a stunning event space, a coffee shop, a casual indoor dining restaurant and bar and a bustling outdoor bar and lounge, all within a beautifully appointed environment for our guests.  


Padre Hotel is looking to immediately hire qualified, enthusiastic, Full-Time Engineering Technician.  We are looking for world-class employees who go the extra mile and create the atmosphere that keeps our guests coming back time and time again.


Principal Responsibilities & Position Purpose:

The Engineering Specialist is responsible for maintaining the physical condition, appearance, functionality, and safety of the hotel through preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and operational support. Key responsibilities include guestroom and public-area repairs, equipment operation, building systems inspections, preventive maintenance programs, vendor coordination, and emergency response. This position works with hotel leadership and operational departments to ensure facilities, equipment, and building systems operate efficiently and meet Padre Hotel standards.


Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities:

· Perform preventive maintenance on guest rooms, public spaces, meeting areas, restaurants, back-of-house spaces, and building systems throughout the property.

· Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, and general building maintenance issues.

· Maintain guest-room equipment, fixtures, furnishings, lighting, doors, locks, windows, and related systems.

· Respond to guest and staff maintenance concerns and service requests in a timely, professional manner.

· Inspect, maintain, and repair hotel equipment and building infrastructure.

· Monitor property conditions and identify opportunities to improve functionality, appearance, efficiency, and reliability.

· Perform scheduled inspections of guest rooms, mechanical rooms, rooftops, exterior areas, and operational spaces.

· Maintain accurate maintenance logs, preventive maintenance records, and work order documentation.

· Coordinate repairs and projects with outside vendors and contractors as directed.

· Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, building codes, and environmental requirements.

· Assist with emergency maintenance situations and after-hours service needs.

· Support capital improvement projects, renovations, and facility upgrades.

· Maintain engineering tools, equipment, workshops, storage areas, and workspaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition.


Additional Duties (Non-specific Essential Functions):

· Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair building systems and equipment throughout the property.

· Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reliability.

· Participate in emergency response situations involving building systems.

· Assist with general maintenance duties as operational needs require.

· Maintain compliance with all Padre Hotel policies and procedures.

· Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.


Supportive Functions:

· Assist engineering team members with maintenance and renovation projects.

· Support room renovation and property improvement projects.

· Participate in departmental meetings, training programs, and safety briefings.

· Assist with inventory control and organization of engineering supplies.

· Communicate maintenance concerns and recommendations to management.

· Support operational departments in resolving facility-related issues.


Work Schedule: Due to the hospitality industry's cyclical nature, employees may be required to work varying schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts to meet business needs


Position Qualifications:

  • Preferably 5 + years experience in building maintenance/repair.
  • Technical training in HVAC, electrical or building maintenance preferred.
  • Possess extensive electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to read blueprints, wiring schematics and technical manuals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the public and other team members.


Rate of Pay: $27.00-$29.00 per hour (based off experience)
