GENERAL SUMMARY:

In collaboration with the HFHS Director, Quality & Safety, and local level leadership at each business unit, the manager plans, organizes and develops processes/programs to implement and sustain safety and reliability priorities across the organization. Serves as an internal consultant for safety and reliability, measurement strategies, and interpretation of associated standards and system priorities. Develops performance improvement plans with management/staff on an as needed basis.  Plans, develops, and implements education and training programs to support the achievement and sustainability of safety and reliability at HFHS.  Manages broad business unit and system level, multidisciplinary projects/initiatives of a complex nature. Project work may include technical/professional analyses or may require facilitation of a large multidisciplinary group of administrators and/or medical personnel. This individual provides needed continuous improvement training and education and works closely with other leadership to meet education needs at all levels throughout the institution.

Communicates regularly with Management and prepares reports with recommendations on specific projects and/or emerging trends. Flexibility, excellent problem solving/critical thinking skills and the ability to handle stressful situations are necessary characteristics of the successful candidate. Individual is expected to continuously learn key content related to safety and reliability; apply new continuous improvement methodologies; and to spread key learnings/best practices throughout the system.

This role requires advanced data analytic skills, including strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products, and demonstrated expertise in navigating complex regulatory environments across multiple facilities. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic approach to implementing standardized, evidence-based practices across the health system to help reduce hospital-associated infections. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including occasional weekend work as needed, as well as the ability to travel between system sites. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of Epic, provide coverage for other system-level Infection Prevention Specialist as needed and serve as an educational resource for IPS teams across the system by leading training and development sessions when appropriate.

We are seeking an experienced Infection Prevention leader with expertise in regulatory readiness, operational leadership, program development, and implementation of evidence-based practices across a complex multi-site health system. Preferred qualifications include strong knowledge of Infection Prevention, NHSN reporting and case review, policy development, hand hygiene initiatives, and high-level disinfection processes and auditing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication, organization, project management, and interdisciplinary leadership skills, with the ability to manage priorities independently and drive initiatives to completion. Proficient in data analysis and interpretation, using results to lead change management and operational improvement efforts. Experience supporting regulatory surveys, leading standardization efforts, competency programs, and patient safety improvement is strongly preferred.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works Independently with minimal or no direction. Consults with corporate/business unit leadership as appropriate.

  • Comfortable and effective in interacting independently with C-Suite leaders and physician leaders.

  • Independently leads and facilitates assigned initiatives, in a consulting capacity, in support of organizational improvement that will drive or have direct impact on process improvements, standardization, reduction of waste, culture change, and enhancement of patient experience and/or customer satisfaction.

  • Assesses organizational performance in relation to established goals and standards; recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continuous progress toward goals and standards.

  • Develops improvement action plans, quantifies the benefits, and provides leadership and mentoring to ensure implementation.  Can implement the plan independently or in partnership with the appropriate champion and process owner.

  • Able to independently influence the thinking and actions of directors and executives.

  • Independently, guides the production of creative solutions

  • Develops and provides expertise using change management tools and methods for more complex and sophisticated change initiatives to ensure successful and sustainable implementation of improvements

  • Conducts self in a professional manner demonstrating leadership skills at all times/remains calm under pressure/stressful situations

  • Provides written reports and oral updates for senior management and other leaders.

  • Researches best practices to support decision-making; stays current with safety, reliability, and safety culture emerging trends.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

       Bachelor's degree in Nursing or healthcare related field required. Master's degree in health care field preferred; RN preferred.

       Minimum five (5) years hospital experience required; clinical/operational experience required.

       QI/PI lead/facilitation skills: three to five (3-5) years; Broad Business unit and System level, multidisciplinary experience. Demonstrated knowledge of QI/PI methodology.

       Evidence of ongoing continuing education in safety and reliability best practices, relevant standards, and emerging trends/priority focus areas.

       Excellent verbal and written skills.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: 

Certification in Infection Control (CIC)

Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS' Customer Service Policy

Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services.
