RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:


1. Manage Divisional Projects:

  • Manage capital improvement projects at existing operations.
  • Prepare scope of work documents for projects assigned.
  • Provide expertise in evaluation of potential projects including the selection of new equipment, new technology, and process innovations.
  • Execute feasibility studies and conceptual design (pre-engineering studies).
  • Develop cost estimate or direct the work of an engineering firm to develop the estimate.
  • Scope, define and write standards & specifications for basic and detailed engineering.
  • Review and challenge basic & detailed engineering studies.
  • Develop Capex Requests for new improvement projects.
  • Ensure capital projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Support Engineering and manage the capital projects.


2. Mechanical Engineering:

  • Develop conceptual design for small projects.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise and experience in design of new equipment and modifications of existing plant infrastructure.
  • Review mechanical and electrical design details of proposals submitted by design engineers and contractors
  • Review and approve fabrication drawings for projects.
  • Review reliability engineering function at the Plants and develop systems to improve reliability management
  • Work with the Maintenance Managers at the Plants to develop major maintenance priorities
  • Identify ways to increase productivity in Maintenance through improvements in work processes, techniques and tools.


3. Divisional Capital Budget:

  • Prepare CERs for capex projects, primarily focused on investments to support process improvement.
  • Assist Finance with technical supporting data for CAFE forms on these and other applicable projects.
  • Support the plants' budgeting process for capital by helping to identify needed projects that will lead to overall improved process efficiency.


4. Provide technical assistance in solving equipment problems:

  • Travel to the different Plants and Terminals as required for on-site technical evaluations.
  • Lead investigations to determine the root causes of equipment failures.
  • Track implementation of recommendations for changes and improvements.


5. Provide a variety of engineering functions in support of plant operations and optimization efforts:

  • Under general direction, perform engineering duties supporting various disciplines including process, production/manufacturing, electrical, automation, quality and maintenance (reliability).
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision on multiple projects in a continuous manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Develop material balances, preliminary layouts and equipment lists.
  • Assist the operating personnel in evaluating new equipment and technology.


6. Function as a facilitator / technical advisor to operations:

  • Provide facts & data for evaluating system improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with implementation of system improvements & projects.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures for approval.
  • Formulate and present technical training.
  • Provide assistance and design guidance with safety practices in mind.


7. Other duties as assigned.


ATTRIBUTES:

  • Knowledgeable in all phases of plant design, process evaluation, equipment application and construction management.

  • Able to work effectively in a cross-disciplinary way with all levels of the organization.
  • Able and willing to spend time in the plants working with the Operators, Supervisors, and Managers.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to travel to plant sites about 60-70% of the time.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 150 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working at times in covered environment but mainly in a lime/mineral environment.
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Lime/Mineral Particles.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.


REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other technical related field or equivalent work experience.

PREFFERED EDUCATION:

  • Professional Engineering Registration (P.E.), CAPM or PMP certification. Advanced degree preferred.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Five (5) to Seven (7) or more years of prior project management and/or engineering experience in heavy manufacturing and/or mining processes with the focus around safety, productivity, and costs compliance or savings.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  • Lime, cement, or minerals industry process experience strongly preferred.
