About the Role - What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager, the Mechanical/Maintenance Engineer leads efforts to improve equipment reliability, mechanical integrity, and asset performance. This role develops reliability and preventive maintenance programs, supports condition monitoring and root cause failure analysis, and provides engineering support for maintenance and capital projects. Working with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams, this role helps drive equipment performance, regulatory compliance, and safe, reliable plant operations.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
Area of Responsibility 1: Reliability & Asset Integrity Programs
  • Develop, maintain, and improve Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs
  • Evaluate PM effectiveness and recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability
  • Lead root cause analysis investigations for equipment failures and implement defect elimination strategies
  • Manage asset condition monitoring programs including vibration analysis and infrared thermography
  • Support fixed asset maintenance programs including vessel inspections and mechanical integrity activities
  • Coordinate pressure safety valve (PSV) inspection, testing, and recertification programs
  • Identify obsolete equipment risks and develop replacement strategies
  • Monitor equipment performance trends and recommend corrective actions to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
 
Area of Responsibility 2: Technical Engineering & Project Support
  • Maintain equipment documentation, engineering drawings, and regulated work documentation
  • Provide technical support for maintenance and operations teams to resolve equipment issues
  • Lead and support capital improvement and maintenance projects
  • Ensure compliance with applicable mechanical, pressure vessel, and equipment regulations
  • Develop equipment specifications and engineering solutions to improve reliability and maintainability
  • Support maintenance planning and execution activities through technical expertise and analysis
  • Assist with equipment installation, commissioning, and startup activities
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel to improve plant performance and efficiency
 
Safety & Environment
  • Maintain a proactive safety mindset and promote safe work practices throughout all engineering activities
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and mechanical integrity requirements
  • Support incident investigations and corrective action development related to equipment reliability and asset performance
  • Participate in risk assessments and management of change activities as required
 
Quality Assurance
  • Maintain accurate and current engineering documentation, inspection records, and equipment files
  • Support ISO certification requirements through effective maintenance and reliability programs
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy of equipment data, drawings, and maintenance records
  • Promote continuous improvement through reliability analysis and equipment performance evaluations
 
Requirements & Qualifications
 
Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial manufacturing, chemical processing, or heavy industry
  • Experience with reliability engineering, preventative maintenance, and mechanical integrity programs
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment, piping systems, pressure vessels, and industrial maintenance practices
  • Experience leading root cause analysis and defect elimination initiatives
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a plant environment
  • Ability to work in office and manufacturing environments, including standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, and occasional lifting
 
Desirable:
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
  • Reliability engineering certification or related reliability experience
  • Experience with vibration analysis, infrared thermography, or condition monitoring technologies
  • Experience with SAP or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Experience supporting capital projects and equipment upgrades
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel inspection programs and regulatory compliance requirements
 
Work Environment
  • Chemical manufacturing environment with regular interaction in operating and maintenance areas
  • Exposure to industrial equipment, rotating machinery, elevated work areas, and outdoor conditions as required

Salary: Annual gross salary range is $120,000 to $140,000. This will be based on professional experience, demonstrated competencies, and alignment with our internal compensation structure.
