About this Role

R.R. Cassidy is searching for an experienced Relay Technician. The Relay Technician is responsible for testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relay systems in electrical substations with minimal supervision. This role involves using specialized relay testing equipment to ensure system reliability and compliance with engineering specifications. A strong safety mindset and the ability to lead by example are essential.

What You'll Do
  • Promote and model a strong safety culture, including accountability for safety practices of team members.
  • Install, commission, test, and perform routine maintenance on protective relaying systems in substations.
  • Conduct function testing on relay panels, transformers, breakers, and associated control circuitry.
  • Create and follow procedures for testing, commissioning, and maintaining protective devices.
  • Develop and execute relay test routines, macros, and verify system performance aligns with design parameters.
  • Analyze relay logic, settings, and responses to simulated faults to confirm proper operation.
  • Plan and implement testing and isolation procedures for scheduled outages.
  • Install and test communication protocols and systems such as SCADA, GOOSE, Modbus, and fiber optics.
  • Perform system analysis involving relays, transformers, AC/DC systems, and instrumentation. Assist in troubleshooting distribution and transmission protection schemes and control issues.
What You'll Bring
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime when needed.
  • Practical experience working with protective relay equipment in utility substations.
  • Working knowledge of electrical control circuits and protective relay logic.
  • Proficiency with relay test software and tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of high-voltage electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, switchgear, and transformers.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology or Engineering.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders or equipment for extended periods.
  • Capable of working in outdoor environments and various weather conditions.
