Job description

Registered Radiologist Assistant

The Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) is a physician extender who works under the supervision of a radiologist to promote high standards of patient care in the diagnostic imaging environment. An RRA performs patient assessments, patient management, and select clinical imaging procedures under the supervision of the radiologist in compliance with institutional and state requirements.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform fluoroscopic procedures, including fluoroscopic and interventional, under the supervision of a radiologist.
  • Assist the radiologist with image guided procedures.
  • Evaluate imaging studies for quality, appropriate protocols, and provide preliminary diagnosis where appropriate.
  • Obtain patient medical histories and assess for contraindications to procedures or contrast use.
  • Monitor patient vital signs during and after procedures when needed.
  • Administer contrast media and medications as permitted by state and institutional policies.
  • Explain procedures, risks, and benefits of procedures to patients.
  • Promote safety by adhering to ALARA principles.
  • Provide post procedural instructions and follow up guidance.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Communicate findings and procedural details to the care team as appropriate.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary discussions regarding patient procedures and outcomes
  • Document patient procedures, interactions, and clinical findings in the medical record.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]

Required Qualifications/Experience (Graduate of an accredited Radiologist Assistant program. Bachelor's Degree)

ยท 1 to 3 years of experience in Radiology.

ยท Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.

ยท Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience (please add any additional requirement)

ยท Masters Degree
