Job description

Position Summary: Conducts tests on pulmonary or cardiovascular systems of patients for diagnostic purposes. May conduct or assist in electrocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations, pulmonary-functions, lung capacity, and similar tests. Maintains equipment; records test results. Follows department policies and protocols. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities as Assigned:

1.     Monitors, analyzes, obtains, calculates and documents data obtained in procedures. Alerts physician to abnormalities or changes in patient responses.

2.     Explains testing procedures to patient to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.

3.     Prepares reports of diagnostic procedures for interpretation by physician.

4.     Observes gauges, recorder and video screens of data analysis system during imaging of cardiovascular system.

5.     Assists the physician during cardiac cath lab procedures including angioplasty procedures.

6.     Conducts electrocardiogram, phonocardiogram, echocardiogram, stress testing and other cardiovascular tests to record patients' cardiac activity using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, and laboratory instruments.

7.     Prepares and positions patients for testing.

8.     Obtains and records patient identification, medical history and test results.

  1. Checks, tests and maintains cardiology equipment making minor repairs when necessary to ensure proper operation.
  2. Completes quality assurance processes and practices. Complies with all Joint Commission, federal, state and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.
  3. Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms and records in paper and electronic formats.

12.  Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

13.  Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Lead Duties and Responsibilities (If classified in a Lead Role):

1.     Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.

2.     Contributes to performance feedback, hiring decisions.

3.     Ensures standards are met (quality, timeliness, customer service, etc.).

4.     Evaluates and tests new procedures/processes.

5.     Orients and/or trains new staff.

6.     Problem solving capabilities.

7.     Subject matter expert/technical leadership.

8.     Workflow/distribution of work.

9.     Assists in assuring compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws, and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department.

Qualifications:

Required:

       Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) OR Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) OR Registered Radiological Technologist (RTR).

OR

       Graduate of an accredited program, and Registration as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International required within six (6) months of hire.

OR

       Graduate from a non-accredited program in either electrophysiology or invasive cardiovascular technology. Obtain either RCIS or RCES registration within 18 months of graduation. One year of work experience is required to be eligible for the registry exam.

OR

       Graduate of a certificate or degree granting program or post-secondary educational program in Respiratory Therapy, LPN, or Echo Tech, Paramedic and Electrophysiologists . Must obtain RCIS certification within 2 years.

OR

       Minimum of three years of allied health experience in an acute care setting and Cardiac Cath Lab, EP, Radiology Specials, or Neuro Interventional Procedures experience required. Must obtain RCIS certification within 2 years.

  • BLS certification.

Preferred: 

       Previous experience working in an invasive cardiovascular environment.
