Job description

Dental Assistant

Southern Jersey Family Medical Centers, Inc. is looking for a Dental Assistant to provide quality and compassionate care and help make an impact with our patients.

Summary: The basic function of the Dental Assistant is to provide responsible, quality dental patient care and instrument processing, and have knowledge of dental equipment/devices used while supporting and assisting the Dentist.

Hours: This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work a flexible schedule. General daytime hours may vary Monday - Friday and up to 2 evenings per week.

Position Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Perform initial patient interviews and monitor patient flow
  • Assure that all examination rooms are cleaned, fully stocked and ready for the next patient
  • Perform radiographs and necessary clinical procedures as directed by the Dentist
  • Perform various dental duties under the direct supervision of a dentist in accordance with the applicable Scope of Practice delineated by the New Jersey Board of Dentistry
  • Responsible for the maintenance and servicing of all dental instruments, including collecting, cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of all reusable instrumentation, supplies, and equipment used by Dentists as outlined in Sterilization of Reusable Medical/Dental Devices or Instruments manual
  • Operate sterilizers, maintain sterilization records/logs and performs biological and monitor testing of sterilizers
  • Establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with personnel in all operating departments of the company, patients, doctors and the business/medical community at large
  • Provide necessary patient instructions and demonstrations when necessary
  • Discharge the patient upon completion of the visit
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Dental Office Manager or Practice Manager

Position Requirements:

  • Valid NJ Radiology license
  • CDA (Certified Dental Assistant) or RDA (Registered Dental Assistant) preferred
  • Diploma from Dental Assistant program
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • At least 1 year of current work experience; 2-4 years preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong computer skills: knowledge of MediaDent and EPIC is a plus
  • Excellent customer services and communication skills; Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
