Job description

Position Summary

The Registered Radiology Technologist RT(R)/Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (,Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) serves as a member of the Cardiovascular Catheterization Team. Independently assists physicians in performing invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, hemodynamic procedures including catheterization, angiography, stenting, electrophysiology , while monitoring patients and ensuring their safety. Performs equipment quality assurance and supports inventory and data analysis. Responsible for radiation safety within the department and management of x-ray equipment including compliance with regulatory requirements.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  1. Prepare the Catheterization Laboratory and equipment for procedures, maintain supply inventory, and support a clean environment of care.
    • Maintain inventory levels for cardiac cath lab specific equipment, including preventive maintenance
  • Collaborate with facilities and bio-med for cath lab equipment management

  • Radiation safety QA procedures performed

  • Maintain safety lead protection for cath lab staff and patients

  • Maintain physiologist reports for equipment

  1. Prepare patients for procedures, performing skin preparation, sterile technique utilized.

  2. Function as scrub assistant during diagnostic, interventional and all other procedures performed in the Cath Lab, including emergent AMI procedures, stent placement, balloon angioplasty and electrophysiology studies

  3. Function as hemodynamic monitor and control room operator during procedures; provides accurate recordkeeping of procedures

    • Communication with physicians for abnormalities and safety concerns.
  1. Provides high quality radiographic imaging, which includes quality assurance and radiation safety.

  2. Review documentation, including procedure orders and patient medical record

  3. Patient communication to explain procedure, answer questions and provide a high level patient experience.

  4. Maintain record of images, reports, equipment maintenance, and inventory control.

? Graduate of Radiology Technology program, Registered Radiology Technologist through AART
