Position Summary
The Regional Operations Manager (ROM) serves as the senior operational leader for an assigned market and is responsible for the overall performance, leadership, execution, and profitability of multiple branch locations. The ROM leads Branch Managers, drives operational excellence, supports profitable growth, and ensures consistent execution across all assigned locations. This role serves as the operational counterpart to the Regional Sales Manager and is accountable for customer experience, inventory productivity, transportation effectiveness, safety compliance, leadership development, and execution of company initiatives throughout the assigned market.
Regional Accountability
The Regional Operations Manager maintains full operational accountabilities for all assigned branches and is responsible for the performance, leadership, development, compliance, and execution of branch operations throughout the assigned market.
Branch Managers report directly to the Regional Operations Manager. The Regional Operations Manager reports directly to the Director of Regional Operations.
The Regional Operations Manager serves as the primary operational leader for the market and is responsible for aligning people, processes, inventory, transportation, facilities, and operational resources to support customer satisfaction, employee development, and profitable growth.
Position Purpose
  • Drive operational excellence and consistent execution across all branch locations.
  • Develop high-performing Branch Managers and leadership teams.
  • Ensure Branch Management consistently maintains appropriate staffing levels to support safe, efficient, and effective branch operations.
  • Improve customer satisfaction, service execution, and market competitiveness.
  • Support profitable sales growth through strong operational partnership and execution.
  • Optimize inventory investments, transportation effectiveness, and asset utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Talent Development
  • Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate Branch Managers.
  • Establish performance expectations and accountability standards across all assigned branches.
  • Conduct branch visits, quarterly reviews, succession planning, and performance evaluations.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, development, and retention initiatives.
  • Develop future leaders and succession pipelines within the region.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Customer Experience & Market Growth
  • Partner with Regional Sales Managers to drive customer retention, house account development, and market growth.
  • Participate in strategic customer meetings and service recovery efforts.
  • Support customer acquisition initiatives through operational excellence and service execution.
  • Promote alignment between Sales and Operations to improve customer satisfaction and market performance.
  • Support implementation of sales initiatives, strategic programs, and growth opportunities.

Financial & Operational Performance
  • Monitor labor utilization, productivity, staffing levels, and operating expenses.
  • Participate in planning, budgeting, forecasting, and business reviews.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Support initiatives that improve scalability, productivity, and operational effectiveness.

Inventory & Supply Chain Management
  • Drive inventory turns, fill rates, inventory accuracy, and inventory productivity.
  • Reduce non-performing, excess, damaged, slow-moving, and aged inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with inventory control procedures, cycle count programs, and inventory productivity initiatives.
  • Support inventory balancing, transfer optimization, and demand planning efforts.

Transportation & Logistics
  • Oversee transportation operations, fleet utilization, route efficiency, and delivery execution.
  • Monitor driver productivity, delivery performance, and transportation effectiveness.
  • Partner with Logistics Operations leadership to improve transportation efficiency, delivery performance, and fleet utilization.
  • Support initiatives that improve customer service, safety, and transportation productivity.

Safety & Compliance
  • Conduct operational, safety, asset, and process audits.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead corrective actions related to audit findings, safety observations, incidents, and compliance deficiencies.
  • Promote a culture where safety remains the highest operational priority.

Facilities & Asset Management
  • Evaluate facility utilization, operational capacity, and asset effectiveness.
  • Support branch relocations, expansions, acquisitions, and facility planning initiatives.
  • Provide recommendations regarding capital expenditures, equipment investments, and operational infrastructure.
  • Ensure company assets are properly maintained and effectively utilized.

Strategic Leadership
  • Lead corporate initiatives, process improvements, technology adoption, and operational excellence programs.
  • Assist with development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Support organizational growth initiatives and change management efforts.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive operational leadership experience.
  • Multi-site operational leadership experience preferred.
  • Distribution, wholesale, logistics, warehouse, or supply chain experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success developing leaders and improving operational performance.

Travel Requirements
Travel is expected to exceed 50% of working time. Frequent branch visits and overnight travel are required.
